TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

If that does nothing, remove all four AAA batteries. Press and hold the ON key for at least ten seconds. Replace the batteries. Turn the calculator on.

    Does that do anything?

Having received no response in over a month, I assume it was merely a matter of the screen contrast.

Does the calculator rely completely on solar Not turning on Do you have to change battery

The calculator uses a battery in addition to the solar cell. If the battery runs down you need to replace it. Turn the calculator over and you'll see the battery compartment in the upper-right corner (with a screw holding it shut). The calculator takes a LR44 battery or equivalent.

Make sure you clear the calculator after replacing the battery: press ON SHIFT 9 3 =

My calculator completely shut down and now I cant turn it on. I tried taking out the batteries but that was no the problem!! what should i do?

Hi there,

Be sure the contacts for the batteries are clean, shiny and free of any corrosion.

To be absolutely sure it is not a battery problem, replace the old ones with fresh new ones. Mine is pretty finicky too.

Would randomly shut off

Hi,
Listen! I am no seer, but I suspect that the batteries in your calculator are depleted. Replace all of them because the backup battery is not able to keep the flash memory refreshed.

Hope it helps.

Minimally used calculator drains batteries fast

Hello,
The draining of batteries depends on usage. Turn calculator off when not in use. Use rechargeable batteries: Have two sets of them and change batteries before the ones in use are not fully discharged.
If you get tired of that, I suggest you have the calculator repaired.

Hope it helps.

Calculator will not come on at all

Hello,
Replacing the battery will always do good. You will be assured that the problem you may be having is not due to spent batteries, so that you may focus on other potential causes.
Hope it helps.
