Garmin units are renowned for being easy to use. The interface of the nuvi 265 is simple, bright and effective. Menu items are accompanied by either large boxes with text or clearly labelled graphic icons. Unfortunately, the display isn’t great; it does a reasonable job but if you can afford the extra cash for the widescreen model, then we definitely recommend getting it instead. Not only will you get a larger display, you’ll also get a better resolution, resulting in crisper images.
The main menu is very straightforward, with large icons for Where To and View Map, in addition to smaller icons for volume and tools. Strangely, there is no icon for Bluetooth in the main menu. You'll have to delve into the settings menu to activate this feature.
The nuvi 265 can navigate to a specific address, a Point of Interest (POI), a recent location, a specific junction or your favourites. You can also directly input a specific GPS coordinate. The unit features Where Am I, a convenient menu that shows your exact latitude and longitude and the nearest junction. You can also quickly find the closest hospitals, police stations and petrol stations in case of emergency.
Navigating to an address is simple enough, though Garmin has stuck with an unusual search order. Searches are made in order of suburb, street number and then street name, instead of entering the street number after selecting the street.
The nuvi 265's maps aren't as detailed as their TomTom, Navman and Mio counterparts. Most people will appreciate the simplicity, but they won't appreciate the volume levels of this unit. Even at its highest setting, the speaker lacks the punch of many competing units. The lack of a built-in FM transmitter means there is no real way around this issue. Luckily, voice guidance is excellent. The nuvi 265 includes two Australian text-to-speech voices that pronounce most street names accurately.
The nuvi 265 comes preloaded with City Navigator Australia NT and includes more than 600,000 POIs. Safety alerts, such as speed and red light cameras, aren't preloaded onto the unit.

Take care.

Garmin 2555LMT car charger doesn't have transmitter in middle of cord. Is it at the base of the car charger?

The block taht was in the power line of older GPS devices was for traffic only, NOT gps siginal. modern Garmin units have the traffic portion built into the Case of the head unit. GPS reciever is ALWAYS in the case of the head unit.

My 265WTS says to subscibe to the traffic reportsI have to file the unit's I.D number. Where do I do that?

your nuvi will receive its traffic updates through an FM channel that requires no subscriptions. The receiver is located in the 12v power cable so aslong as you are powered you should receive updates.

Hope this helps!

I bought a Garmin /Nuvi 265wt do I need to suscribe to receive traffic reports

Many Garmin nuvi GPS units that are traffic capable come with a complimentary 1 (or more) month trial of the service. After that period is over, a subscription must be obtained to continue to receive traffic reports. The GPS will continue to provide routing and mapping without a traffic subscription however. Only the real-time data will be missing without a subscription.

Pay close attention to which traffic service you get. The MSN traffic service will be going away in the next year or two. The FM traffic service appears to continue to grow. Phone a Garmin Customer Service Rep to discuss your traffic subscription options and possibly active your choice with them over the phone.

Traffic reciever codes

The MSN Direct traffic receiver is located in the cigar power plug of the power cord. When you purchased the GPS and included (or separate) receiver, a special code similar to a CD-Unlock code xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx was printed on a piece of cardboard that the cord and plug passed through. If you discarded the paper - fear not. The MSN Direct receiver code or number is available to view on the GPS screen when you select Tools --> MSN Direct -->Status -->Subscription. There is also a phone number displayed to activate.

How do i activate traffic alert

Question? Is traffic alert available where you live? If not then you will not be able to get it. Traffic alert is available in certain places only, and usually cities with a population of couple million or more. Hope this helps.

I require an update from 7.101 to 7.22 at least to work my RDS-TMCTraffic Reciever as stated on the box that was supplied with the reciever

The problem seemed to be solved when I downloaded the latest update onto my TomTom. Although it was not as the RDS-TMC Traffic Reciever information stated on the box supplied with the system, I was able the recieve a signal form a radio station.

I have been unable to prove the whole system as I have not encounted any traffic holdups to date.

Thankyou for your reply.

Hard wiring the Nuvi 660

Make sure you use the proper kit for hardwiring. The Garmin DC adapter setp down the voltage from 12vdc to 5vdc. If you don't get the right kit you could fried your unit.
