The fact that 512 MB of RAM is decreased to 502 should not result in any performance problems, as this is a minimal difference. You could have faulty RAM, which would result in the 10MB not being visible to, or useable by, the system. Also, the various pieces of hardware within your machine use assigned memory addresses. If the system needs additional space for those addresses, it takes it from RAM. I suggest running a memory check and a hard disk check to make sure all is clean. If you have a performance problem, we should take a look at the running processes.

According to MS at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946003 :
Before the installation of Windows Vista SP1, Windows Vista displayed how much system memory was available to the operating system. For computers that have 3 GB or less of physical memory installed, the reported memory value can sometimes be somewhat less than the memory physically that is installed. These differences are because of the BIOS and possibly driver reservations of physical memory. For example, some BIOS implementations allocate some physical memory for the graphics adapter. Typical sizes are from 8 MB to 128 MB for graphics. Other sizes are possible. The BIOS and some drivers may reserve physical memory for other peripherals or purposes. These reservations are reasonable and are part of the usual operation for a computer. However, they do reduce how much physical memory is available for use by the operating system and applications.

IT IS A SHARED MEMORY
You won't like the resolution if you remove the 8mb buffer in bios set-up, trust me.(it will make your display look like 16color windows 3.1 or worse) You could try it and it will get you back that 8 meg the other is shadow ram, don't mess with that either.
Your options in advanced video are 8mb and 1mb. My advice, leave it.

SOURCE: Ram

the other Ram is shared video
Shared video uses ram from your installed ram chips to use for your on board video adapter.

Acer desktp internal ram installation needed

I'm a bit confused....did you have all four of these in the ACER and are trying to put the 2x1GB into the Emachine? And that the 2x1 GB wouldn't work in the Emachine but they did in the ACER and that the 2x512 Acer cards worked in the emachine?

If that is what happened here is my best guess. The ACER MOBO will support 533/667/800 MHZ DDR2 RAM. The Emachine will only support 533 RAM. Iys possible the 2x1GB are either 667 or 800 MHZ and are not compatible with the Emachine but will work in the ACER.

I have a Packard Bell desk top PC In 2006 I Installed windows vista I noticed I needed a 512 ram as I had 256.I bought a 512 ram I knew were to install It ,I took the 256 ram out and carefully put In...

You put in the wrong type of memory. Put the old 256 back in the computer should power on with no beep code(or all good beep). If this is correct make sure to obtain the same type of memory as the 256. Also both slots must have the same RAM. You cannot have a 128 with a 512. They should both be either 128 or 512.
If you are using Vista you should have a minimum of 1g RAM.

I have increase the ram from 512 to 2 gb in my emachine desktop, after i restart moniter not getting the video signal. how to fix it?

OK when you increased the ram from 512 to 2G, your hands usually bump the video card and loosen the connection... Crack open your PC again and re seat the video card... This is all pertaining if you have a separate video card in that computer. Just unplug the video card and re snap it in.

Slow computer with 256 MB,

efore you make any purchases, you need to know how much memory you have and what type of memory to buy.Find out how much RAM your computer has:
Windows 7
Windows Vista
In Windows XP, go to the Start menu, click Settings, and then click Control Panel. Click System and then select the General tab. At the bottom of the page you should see the amount of RAM.
Most games will specify the minimum amount of RAM you need to install them and play. For example, Harry Potter And The Prisoner of Azkaban requires 256 MB. This amount includes RAM that the computer needs to do its own background work as well as to run the game.
The amount of RAM you need depends on the operating system you are using. For systems running Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP, you will need the minimum recommended amount, but more is often better, depending on your needs. If you just use your PC for surfing the Internet and writing letters, you need 512 MB to 1 GB. For more RAM-intensive programs, such as games or photo editing, or if you like to use a lot of applications at the same time, such as desktop publishing and video rendering, more than 1 GB is recommended. Each program should come with system requirements that show both the minimum RAM needed to run the program, and the amount of RAM needed for its best performance.
RAM modules can be purchased in a variety of sizes.
Figure out what type of RAM you requireTo determine the maximum amount of RAM your computer can handle as well as the speed, consult your PC's owner's manual, which should show you the number of slots (the place where you insert the RAM), how much each can take, and the maximum your system can use.

Need more memory

Hello,

Your machine takes PC2100 memory modules and yes you should have more memory to run WindowsXP.

For an eMachine the best way to upgrade your memory is to contact eMachine directly and have them advise you or provide you wit memory to suit your needs because their motherboards are pretty specific to them and the specs as sold to you are not available to us.

Use the below to get on your way. Hope this Fixed ya and thanks for using Fix ya.

How to upgrade a new compaq presario SR2150NX?

Add more RAM, 512MB ram will slow your computer down because when you run out of ram the computer uses the hard drive as vitrual ram. I have 4GB in my Vista machine and it is faster than XP.

Another suggestion is to turn off the hard drives indexing. Right click on your "C" drive and unhook the "index this drive for faster searching" box.
