Question about GE Refrigerators

1 Answer

The refrigerator is a side by side Profile/Artica model PSS27SHNA. The condenser is freezing up until an ice block is formed. At this time the freezer and refrigerator slows freezing and cooling, freezer temp. = 30 and up, and refrigerator temp. = 48 and up. It looks like if the reistor is not turning on during the defrost cycle. I measured the resistance and get 35 ohms. I am guessing if the problem would be the module, and if there is any way to force the module go into the defrost cycle manually, to verify if the resistor is burning, and if it is not burning, to check if voltages is reaching the resistor or coming out from the module. You could possibly modify the module if it were solid state, but that would be more trouble, because you would have to disable one other function, and still be left with a partially working module. The resister will be a current limiting resister, probably designed to open up in case the fan shorts. If the fan is bad, you would not get good readings back at the resister. The condenser fan is also possibly the culprit, but you're right, it could be the control board. If you wanted to for the defrost cycle, you could wire the voltage lead to the fan with a switch. Seems that would be easier than modifying the control board. Good luck, and hope this helps.

I apologize for a misunderstood in the wording when I wrote the problem with my refrigerator. When I was writing the word condenser, actually it is the evaporator the correct part name, which is inside the freezer. Also when I was talking about the resistor, actually it is the defrost heater the correct part name. So if you don't mind, please re-read the problem with the refrigerator taking in consideration the parts that I have mentined in this reply. Thanks.

Temperature in refrigerator will not stay set. It keeps getting colder. I have a GE Artica model PSS27SGMD. It is a side by side with ice through the door. It is +- 9 years old

GE Artica had problems with the "Motherboards" originally installed. They have since switched manufacturers so my educated guess that is the problem.

GE profile Artica side by side. I am getting a frost build up

Sounds like the dispensor flap is not closing completely , pulling outside air in . Using a flashlight on the outside of the flap , look inside to see if any light is visible . If so , then the ice flap plunger and solenoid will have to be replaced . Also , excessive crushed ice can also cause frosting .

Ice forming on condenser copper tubing GE referigerator

is your drain line plugged up under that coil? another thing to check is if the door asket pinched that wold allow ait to infiltrate into the freeze and freeze up the coil. remember to clean under the unit once a year to keep the unit working properly and not having to struggle to condense the refrigerant. Hopt this solution's work for you and have a Happy New Year.
