I want to restore my dell vostro 3500 to factory image

You'll need restore disks or if there is a restore partition on the hard drive then you can restore it from there. It will be less problematic to get some anti virus software to rid the computer of a virus.

How to effectivelly do a Virus Scan

To Effectivelly scan for viruses in your PC, you should turn off the System Restore, for the following two reasons.

1) It may have the backup image and settings for the virus effects on the computer and may get back those after a successful virus removal, and you will again be effected with the same virus.

2) The folder where system restore data is saved is System Volume Information, this folder is no accessible by Antivirus for scanning as they are blocked by the O/s. When you disable the System Restore, you can help your Antivirus to scan on those folders also, where virus can be hidden.

A good virus never comes to the front to infect your computer, it stays in the back and send its ddeployments to infect and harm your computer.

I have a malicious virus...i tried Windows update virus removal..still have the block from accessing internet, asking to buy removal tool...tried restoring to factory settings upon restart..F10 doesnt...

In regards to removing the virus when you did the factory restor did you actually to the restore of the restore partition on the hard drive or from restore disks. If it was from the restort partition it is possible that the virus spread to that drive.

If you have access to another computer then I would connect the drive to other computer and try to scan the drive.

The reason for this if Windows thinks the virus is a system file the removal program can not remove it if Windows is running. So connecting it to another computer allows you to fully clean the hard drive. However with alot of viruses at this level will cause you to have to do a clean reinstall of Windows any ways. So you may have to look using your restore disks any ways to get a clean reinstall of Windows.

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions

I need assistance running the restore program I have a virus on my computer that is keeping my internet provider from cleaning computer

You didn't list your operating system but if its XP here is how to access "system restore".

Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools and then system restore.
Follow the prompts, choose a point to restore, and then the machine will reboot. Please make sure that during the restart not to power off.
Sometimes going back to a prior build will work and sometimes it won't.
If, after the reboot the restore failed you could try turning "system restore" off and then reboot and after the restart turn "system restore" back on. To do this right click on "My Computer", click on properties. In the new window click on the "System restore" tab.

Hope this helps.

System restore problem

The system restore is blocked by a virus which causes problems to computers and confuses the system restore utility... Even if you have a super anti-virus... sometimes a new virus is the culprit. Or sometimes when you mistakenly allowed or ignored the warning message of your anti-virus.
Copy all your files to another harddrive or to another partition if you have. Or burn them to a CD/DVD
Then reinstall your computer.
Good luck.
