Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Over 17 days waiting for a Baton Rouge, La. Stanton Appliance repairman. The repairman said he'd order the part and it would come in two or three days. I call about it 7 days ago and they said only one part came in and it should be another day or two. The washer would stop at the spin cycle indicating an unbalanced load except when completely empty. Repairman said he'd try first one part and then maybe two more. At this rate, I won't have a washer for half a year. I have had so many problems with repairs in the 3 years I have had the Maytag Neptune that I don't want another nor will I recommend it to anyone. What is up with Maytag service???? Please help!!

Frigidaire model gltf2940fs1 with no spin alert

From the way you have asked for a solution.
Most people like myself are not qualified repair techs.
Generally, by common sense or prior experience, we do the best we can. Since you have not added a possible error code. And even if there is one, most of them are confusing enough as to cause us to call a tech service.
That said. In order of possibility. Three most common problems for washer not spinning.
1) Bad Control board. Cost; $190 +/-.
2) Bad or broken drive belt. Cost; $40 +/-.
3) Bad motor. Cost $200+/-. Thes parts can be purchased off the I'net.
Alert!; Any of the three needs technical ability.
My advice is to call your friendly qualified service department.
Some say 2 days. Some say, if I can schedule you in to my work load. That locks you in to there system and you have to wait.
I have had good luck with Sears Repair Service. If you utilize them go on the I'net and download their discount coupons for any appliance service calls and repair parts if needed. And they are generally faster than the competition.
Good luck. (P.S., I do not work for or know any one who does
work for Sears. Just impressed with their service capabilities and speed of response. )

Thank you so much. Was going to have to wait 6 days for a repairman. Read this...

This advice is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet model FRONT LOADING washing machines. If you experience a problem where the washer does not drain properly or the drain pump makes excessive noise, here’s the information you need to check the drain pump:

  1. Unplug the washer while servicing inside the unit.
  2. Remove the lower kick panel under the door by removing the three 7mm screws under the bottom edge of the panel. HINT: Use a couple of blocks of wood to prop up the front feet of the washer to gain better access to the screws. Once the screws are removed the panel should drop down, and then pull off. If the panel becomes stuck, a slight tap on either side will dislodge it.
  3. Locate the drain pump. It will be located directly under the wash tub (it is the only pump this washer has).
  4. There is an access removal cover on the pump that can be removed to clean out the trap. BEFORE doing this, it is strongly recommended that you remove all residual water from the wash tub & drain line or you will have about a gallon or so inside your washer and on the floor to clean up.
  5. Here’s a helpful way of quickly removing the residual water. If you own a wet/dry shop vac, remove the drain hose from the standpipe at the wall and pull a vacuum with the shop vac. This will empty the wash tub, pump and drain lines. If you don’t own a shop vac, grab a bunch of old towels and open the access on the pump slowly so that it comes out at a trickle. Allow the towels to soak up the majority of the water. Close the access and stop the water if you need to get additional towels.
  6. Open the pump access and remove once you have all the water drained. Check the drain pump for foreign objects and debris. Check the pump impeller and make sure there’s nothing caught in it. Items as small as toothpicks or cotton swabs have been known to stop this pump from working.
  7. Clean out the pump thoroughly and reinstall the access cover. Make sure the cover is snug, but do not over tighten.
  8. Place the drain hose back in the standpipe (IMPORTANT – DO NOT FORGET!).
  9. With the bottom panel still off, plug the washer back in and select the following on the operator console – DRAIN SPIN, NO SPIN, and then press any button under OPTIONS 4 times (it must be the same button). “C00” will show on the console display as the washer begins diagnostics mode.
  10. Check the drain pump for leaks as the washer fills. The pump is gravity filled and will hold water even it is not pumping. Allow washer to run through diagnostics until it begins the wash tub tumble cycle.
  11. At this point, you can stop the diagnostics procedure by pressing PAUSE/CANCEL 2 times. The drain pump energizes and the washer will begin to drain.
  12. If the drain pump works normal and there are no leaks detected, reinstall the bottom panel and tighten screws.

NOTE: It is normal to have residual water left inside the wash tub under the wash basket. This is why it is important to leave the door ajar when not in use so this water does not become sour.

My magtag washer leaks only when i am filling it

First you need to list the model number and possibly the serial number if you can find it in order for me to figure out what type of washer it is then i can help you. I will also need to know whether it is a top load or a front load. Thank You. You may need to re-ask the question with the model number and serial number or message me at because I am a certified appliance repairman and have repaired quite a few Maytag washers.

How do I determine when my Kenmore Elite washer was manufactured?

Kenmore does not Make their own Appliances There isn't even a Kenmore Factory so in order to detemine how to decipher the date code we need to know Who made it as All companies have different ways to display the manufactured date in order to figure out who made your appliance we need the three digit number preceeding your Model number
shane_barnha.gif and possibly the serial number of the appliance.
Thank You!!

Hi, I need to order door lock for LG washer WD-1243FHB

There are many many online parts stores for washing machines and other appliances. You need to shop for best prices. Be prepared to pay extra for shipping and have a longer waiting period.

I know a local small business repairman who orders any parts I need at his cost and a smaller shipping cost. I don't have to wait as long and he is very helpful--if not amused--with my efforts at fixing things.

Go with the small business if looking locally. They can get any part the big stores can, and will often charge you less. Plus, the parts usually come in the next day.

The seal behind the door tore and water is everywherE!!!!!!!!!!! cAN'T FIND A REPLACEMENT PART ANYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you need to replace the door bellow (gray rubber seal), the following link explains how:

Replacement parts can be purchased at any of the following websites:

Prices vary between sites, so shop and compare. The first three sites listed also have helpful exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying the parts you may need. If the model number you have this question listed under is correct, the part number you need is 8182119. The bellow is listed as item 5 under the "Door and Latch Parts" section.

NOTE: Although the bellow DOES wear out with age and can develop holes, overloading the washer can contribute to the premature wear and tear on these seals. Please follow your owner's manual recommended loading procedures.

If you have any questions about this repair, or need additional assistance, please post and let me know. I hope this helps you.

LE indicates a fault with the motor on the appliance.

LG suggest you switch off, wait for a minute, unplug the appliance.

Wait 15 minutes then plug it back in again.

Try the machine again.

If it's still faulty, you can try changing the Hall Sensor in the motor, this can sometimes cure the problem.

Unplug the machine and remove the rear cover. There are 4 Philips head screws. Take them out and remove the rear cover.

You should now see the rear of the motor, which is mounted to the back of the drum.

In the middle is a large bolt which holds the stator cover.

You'll need a 17mm socket and a ratchet to remove this bolt.

Remove the stator cover and place aside.

Toward the bottom-left, you will see a couple of wire bunches held to the motor by three screws. One holds a metal bracket, one actually holds a ground wire, and the last is through a plastic bracket toward the bottom. Remove these three screws and don't lose them.

Through the motor there are 6 bolts holding it onto the back of the drum assembly.

You'll need a 10mm socket and ratchet to remove them.

You will now have the motor off the back of the drum.

Disconnect the two wire harnesses from the motor.

Looking at the surface of this motor that was facing the DRUM (not the outside), you'll see two small pieces clipped onto it, toward the bottom.

The sensor you are looking to replace is the one that looks like a kitchen magnet.

It is attached by small clips. You'll see how it goes on. It's easy to remove.

Go to google and search for part number 6501KW2002A.

This will bring up an LG sensor assembly.

Double check with the supplier that this is the sensor for your appliance.

When you receive the sensor, simply reverse steps 1 through 5.

Once re assembled, try the machine again.

If still the same after this you'll need to replace the motor and/or control board.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question
