Question about Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router
I have 20mbs internet access through my provider, but my router is limiting the access to about 8mps; what do I need to do?
First make sure that you are getting the good speed from the modem itself.
Connect your computer directly to the modem and check the Internet speed from the modem.
If you are getting the good speed from the modem then the modem is working fine.
Now connect the modem and the computer to the router.
Open the setup page of the router.
On the setup page you will find the option MTU.
It might be disabled or AUTO. Change it to enable or Manual.
Below that you will see the size. It must be set to 1500. Change it to 1365. Click Save settings at the bottom.
Now unplug the power to the router and modem both. Plug in the power to the modem first.
Wait for 1 minute.
Plug in the power to the router.
Wait for 1 minute and now try to access the Internet.
Check the speed. There will be some improvement.
You can also try to upgrade the Firmware of the router.
