All you can do is reset the safety system if it has been tripped.
Turn off the electrical supply to the entire system from your main house electrical board. Then by just turning this switch or circuit breaker back on again you have reset the system, that is if the cause is not continuously there.
During hot spells some air conditioners can go out on high pressure or high temp safeties. Resetting after the event can bring the system back online. if problem persist, the problem could be one of many. The first thing I would look for is a bad capacitor in the outside unit. It is silver and usually oval shaped. If the top is swollen then it is bad. The next thing could be a bad contactor. Look for burnt contacts in the outside unit. The third thing could be a bad fan motor. Make sure that you turn your power off to the unit before opening the outside unit up.

Take care.

First of all check the power to the ac.Is the power coming to the ac when you turn it on.If yes. Then check is the compressor starting when the power comes ON.There is a fan on the compressor unit it will start when you turn the ac ON.If the fan is not coming on then its the fan problem. If the thermostat remain normal cool then its the faulty compressor. The compressor gets bit hot after some minutes you turn the ac ON.As you have replaced the thermostat and checked the breakers and confirmed its working then this are few things that has to be checked. 1) The power. 2) The compressor unit. 3) The compressor fan. 4) The compressor motor. 5) In some ac units there is relay and in some there is a capacitor. Its start up relay or start up capacitor. Its located beside the compressor unit and compressor motor. Other common possibilities to checked out is gas from the compressor leaking or the ventilations of the ac unit got blocked.Clean the ac filters and clean the other drain and air ventilations. The gas is the ac is called freon gas .Its like a coolant gas .Its in the compressor side for cooling effect. If the gas leaks then Ac compressor will work as usual but not cool and the compressor will get over-hot.
For a basic reset procedure.Unplug the ac from the wall power outlet and keep it unplugged for 30 minutes then reconnect as usual and turn the ac unit and check out.If still the same problem then check the above mentioned possibilities one by one.To check the voltage in power to ac and voltage to other components in the ac you can use meter to confirm the faulty part. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

There is a contact relay button on the control panel.Push that button and check out.If the ac comes on That means the relay is faulty and not working automatically. But working manually when you push the button.
Check fig of the contact relay:--

The relay should show 24 volts.if its less then replace the relay to get the ac working.
Thanks for keeping updated with your query.

The outside unit did come on when we pushed the relay. It did not stay on and the inside did not come on. Does this mean that the relay is bad or something else?

    Thank you

I have a Husky 1850 watt generator with a Subaru motor. The motor runs great but will not produce AC. It was working fine then suddenly the lights went out in my garage. I replaced the diode but did not...

A couple of things would be worth checking into. Of course, I'd pretend that you checked the output fuse or circuit breaker? If you can check for voltage directly from the stator or armature and check the results. Nothing? If it has them, could be brushes. Also, if it's a fuse, don't just do a visual...check it with a test light or multi-tester of some sort.

Amana dryer not heating, replaced Thermal Cut off, High limit thermostat and Thermal Fuse, and new breakers in fuse panel

Hello, Before you replaced all those parts did you check each with a multimeter by performing an ohms test or measuring for continuity? By doing this it would tell if any of the parts that you had replaced were at fault. You can also conduct the same test on the heater as well. when performing any ohms or continuity test make sure the unit is unplugged and that you also unplug the part as well from the wires that are connected to it. I await your reply if you have any other questions. Thank you

No heat the water.

Suddenly no hot water: Red reset button tripped, circuit breaker tripped, bad upper element, bad thermostat, loose wire, TP valve is running hot water out of tank, leaking faucet is running hot water out of tank.

1) Check for leaks.
2) Check circuit breaker.
3) Open top cover on water heater and push in red reset button.
If reset is popped out and will not reset, replace thermostat:
4) Test upper element:
5) Loose wire

I have a model 71-408 B which just stop heating

If I understand correctly, you have electric water heater.
Heater suddenly stopped heating.

Four things cause sudden loss of water heater.
1) Reset button located under the top cover is tripped > turn off power, remove cover, press reset button > if reset keeps tripping, go to the troubleshooting link shown below.
2) Electric power to heater is interrupted > check circuit breaker > test for voltage > look for loose wire on breaker
3) Upper element burned out > test and replace element
4) Upper thermostat bad > replace upper thermostat

Reset button is best suspect.

I have a Kenmore electric dryer that suddenly went ''poof'' (like when a light bulb that goes out). It threw the breaker. I reset the breaker and the dryer started. I thought that was all there was to it,...

Q - My electric dryer runs but will not heat, what could stop my dryer from heating?
A - Things that could stop a electric dryer from heating:
- house fuse or breaker ( needs two of them ), heating element, burnt wire, thermostat(s), thermal fuse ( not all models ), motor heat switch, timer, selector switch, burnt power cord/plug.
A ohm meter test for these parts is here.

Dishwasher stopped working..!!..!! please help

Hi crystal245,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your problem is: GE Nautilus Dishwasher suddenly stopped working. NOTHING!! it was fine one day then went kaput the next. I checked the plug in and the circuit breaker but still NOTHING

I run into this often. Ends up being loose, broken or burnt ellectrical connection in d/w junction box most of the time. It's under the d/w behind the kick plate on the right or center. Turn the power off first and remove the wire nuts. Replace wire nuts and/or repair wire ends as nessessary. Beyond that you're looking at a bad control board or failed connection in the unit.
