Question about Heating & Cooling
All you can do is reset the safety system if it has been tripped.
Turn off the electrical supply to the entire system from your main house electrical board. Then by just turning this switch or circuit breaker back on again you have reset the system, that is if the cause is not continuously there.
During hot spells some air conditioners can go out on high pressure or high temp safeties. Resetting after the event can bring the system back online. if problem persist, the problem could be one of many. The first thing I would look for is a bad capacitor in the outside unit. It is silver and usually oval shaped. If the top is swollen then it is bad. The next thing could be a bad contactor. Look for burnt contacts in the outside unit. The third thing could be a bad fan motor. Make sure that you turn your power off to the unit before opening the outside unit up.

First of all check the power to the ac.Is the power coming to the ac when you turn it on.If yes. Then check is the compressor starting when the power comes ON.There is a fan on the compressor unit it will start when you turn the ac ON.If the fan is not coming on then its the fan problem. If the thermostat remain normal cool then its the faulty compressor. The compressor gets bit hot after some minutes you turn the ac ON.As you have replaced the thermostat and checked the breakers and confirmed its working then this are few things that has to be checked.
1) The power.
2) The compressor unit.
3) The compressor fan.
4) The compressor motor.
5) In some ac units there is relay and in some there is a capacitor. Its start up relay or start up capacitor. Its located beside the compressor unit and compressor motor.
Other common possibilities to checked out is gas from the compressor leaking or the ventilations of the ac unit got blocked.Clean the ac filters and clean the other drain and air ventilations. The gas is the ac is called freon gas .Its like a coolant gas .Its in the compressor side for cooling effect. If the gas leaks then Ac compressor will work as usual but not cool and the compressor will get over-hot.
For a basic reset procedure.Unplug the ac from the wall power outlet and keep it unplugged for 30 minutes then reconnect as usual and turn the ac unit and check out.If still the same problem then check the above mentioned possibilities one by one.To check the voltage in power to ac and voltage to other components in the ac you can use meter to confirm the faulty part. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.
