Press MENU to display the menu. Press cursor-left to enter the tabs, use cursor-up/down to select Setup (the wrench icon) and press OK. Select "Copy" and press OK. Select the top item (camera-to-card), press OK, then select "All images" and press OK.

Refer to the "Basic Camera Setup: The Setup Menu" section in the manual, particularly the "Copy" subsection (page 102 in my copy).

No memory card was in my camera. How can I recover the photos from my camera?

The photos are stored in the camera's internal memory.

If you normally transfer your photos to your computer by connecting them with the USB cord, remove your memory card before making the connection. If you normally transfer them by putting the memory card into a card reader, transfer the photos to the memory card using the camera's "Copy" or "Backup" command.

If you require further assistance, please add a comment to this question and specify the model of your Nikon Coolpix camera.

Transfer pictures

Two choices:

You can remove the memory card (if any) and connect the camera to a computer using the USB connection.

A better method is to use the camera's Copy command to copy the pictures from the internal memory to a memory card, then plug the card into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB) and then transferring from the card to the computer.

Once either connection is made, the camera or card will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Nikon Transfer or Picasa.

I shot some photos with no memory card installed, i can view the photos on the camera when the card is not in the camera but i can't upload to my computer, is this possible??

You have two options. If you normally transfer your photos by connecting your camera to your computer, remove the memory card before making the connection. This will allow the computer to see the photos in the camera's internal memory.

If you normally transfer your photos by putting the memory card into a card reader, use the Backup command in the Settings-1 menu to transfer the photos from the camera's internal memory to the memory card, then transfer the photos from the card to the computer as normal. I took pictures on my camera without a memory card can i still download my pictures

I'm glad to provide the steps to transfer images from Internal Memory of the Camera. When the camera does not have a memory card in it, the images are saved by default to the camera's internal memory, which holds different amounts of images based on how many megapixels are built into the internal memory and what image quality and compression are selected in the camera's menu. Once a memory\picture card is inserted in the camera, the camera then saves the photos to the memory\picture card and ignores the internal memory.

There are two ways to transfer the images from the internal memory.

  • To transfer photos to a computer from the internal memory using the USB cable, first remove the memory card from the camera. Then, when the camera is connected, the computer and software will only see what is in the internal memory and transfer those photos or videos. During the transfer process, the computer makes copies of the photos and videos-the original images remain in the internal memory. After the transfer is complete and the camera is safely disconnected from the computer, the contents of the internal memory can be deleted by using the MEMORY FORMAT function in the SETUP menu in the camera's menus.

  • The other way to transfer photos from the internal memory is to transfer them to the memory\picture card using the BACKUP function in the SETUP menu. If there is no memory\picture card in the camera, the BACKUP function is grayed-out. During BACKUP, copies of the images are transferred to the memory\picture card-the original images remain in the internal memory. After the BACKUP is complete, the internal memory can be cleared by removing the memory\picture card and formatting the internal memory using the MEMORY FORMAT function in the SETUP menu in the camera's menus.

Note: When the camera is connected to a computer using the USB cable with a memory\picture card in the memory\picture card slot, the computer will only see the contents of the memory\picture card.

Thanks for understanding. Please let me know if you require any additional help.

Camera is M1033. Two relatively new batteries. Both have worked well. Now I get a brief message...internal memory is full. Then camera shuts off.

Connect the camera to your computer to transfer the photos onto your computer's hard drive. Then you should insert a memory card into the camera. With a memory card you should be able to and clear the internal memory and take more pictures.

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to transfer pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa.
