Question about Kenmore 64712 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Drum or blower will freeze up while tumbling

While the dryer is running, the sound will change while drying and then freeze up and the drum will come to a stop. After a period of time, I push the start button and the buzzer will go longer than expected and either start drying or stop.

If it is an old dryer, or maybe you put a lot of clothes in it at a time, sounds like the friction pads are maybe worn. The drum is open on the front side and just has some teflon or plastic pads that the drum rides on. Maybe you are dealing with metal to metal, which doesn't slide too well. You can order those pads and replace them. Don't ignore this, check it out, because if it is metal to metal, that creates hot, glowing sparks, not good to have in your home.......

NO DRUM ACTION ON MY TDC30 BUT DO GET HEAT

When you start the dryer does it sound as if it is running but it does not tumble? Or does it make a humming noise?

If it sounds like it's running I'd check the belt first,
Humming noise and burning smell Dan indicate a bad motor or something stuck in blower wheel.

Sounds like it is still clogged up. Is the blower running?

Whirlpool AWZ 410 washer dryer is not generating any hot air when drying. The dryer drum is tumbling but with cool air only.

Unplug the unit and take the top with the screws holding the lid on. Take a look at all of the wires on the top of the machine. You might notice broken/burnt wires on the safeties that are close to or that directly activate the heating element located in the blower housing located at the top of this washer/dryer condensing unit.

Dryer gets warm and tumbles but clothes do not dry. Is there a fan assembly that is not working?

Since this is an electric dryer, if it gets warm, that usually means that the heater is working. The drum tumbles so that tells you the motor is working. Which leaves a few things. Clogged exhaust vents could cause it, and even a dirty lint trap could effect it. But on your GE I would most suspect either the thermostat that is located in the dryer blower unit (http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/GE-Parts/Dryer-Parts/WE04X10028/0026/363/Model-DVL223EB6WW/0432/0151200?keySuffixId=NA&pathTaken=partSearch&pathRender=modelComponent&documentCompId=G0407006&diagramPageId=00004&productTypeId=0151200&searchModelNumber=DVL223EB6WW&subCompDesc=Motor&brandDesc=GE&modelDesc=ELECTRIC-DRYER&blt=11) or the blower unit itself. Now remember that the blower is driven by the motor (which also turns your drum - so the thermostat becomes the most likely suspect. It is 1315 on the parts breakdown to give you an indication of where it is located.

My dryer is producing heat but is not drying, i am drying the same size load i usually do on the same cycle. the lent is cleaned out, and the oustide vent is blowing hot air. why are my clothes not getting...

make sure that all the seals are ok, door, front and back drum seal, blower housing seal(inside dryer). also consider that depending on washer type if you overload or have a worn drive belt in washer it will take twice the time to dry. also make sure that the dryer drum tumble. open door, press door switch and start dryer to see if drum turn. lastly disconnect vent pipe behind dryer and dry a load. if it dry ok then you have a partial blockage. you can also have a weak heating element.

My dyer heats and tumbles, but doesn't dry

I'd check first for clogged vent hose or clogged lint filter or clogged vent flap on wall (outside).

If that's not a problem, it may be a faulty thermostat. Heating element is probably okay if it heats some of the time.

More info, let me know.

Dryer does not want to tumble

make sure to see if the blower runs free
in this case is your drum belt broken
if you have someone at home to dissassamble the dryer then
replace the belt and test the machine
this is a normal situation when the dryers are not tumble

Whirlpool dryer drum making noise

window.google_render_ad();There are many places & parts that could be causing your Whirlpool dryer to be noisy. To find out what is causing the noises, you need to find out where are the noises coming from.
Start the dryer and let it run for a while and listen to try to pinpoint where in the dryer the noises is coming from. Once you have an idea of the area, you will need to disconnect the dryer from the wall outlet and take the dryer apart.
Below you will find the parts that you need to check when your dryer is noisy.
The drum baffles:

The drum baffles are use to tumble the clothes inside of the drum, in other words, the baffles job is to separate the pieces of laundry as the drum turns.
When the dryer is getting older and if you use the dryer a lot, the drum baffles holding screws will become loose. Loose drum baffles will cause noises. All you need to do, is to open the top panel and tighten the drum baffles holding screws.
The drum support rollers:

These dryers uses four drum support rollers, tow on the front and two on the rear. The job of the drum support rollers is to keep the drum tumbling smooth.
When the grease on one of the rollers dry out, the roller start to make squeaking noises and the roller bearing will start to wear out until the bearing on the roller is gone. When the bearing on the roller is gone, the noise will change from squeaking to a clanking noise.
The blower wheel:

The blower wheel is use to circulate the air inside of the dryer drum. The most common Whirlpool blower noises are cause by something falling inside of the blower housing and hitting the blower when the motor runs.
The Idler pulley:

The Idler pulley is use to apply the necessary tension on the belt. There are two types of idler pulleys, the pulley with the wheel and the pulley with the teflon slide. A bad idler pulley could cause a Whirlpool dryer to be noisy.
The drive motor:

Worn out bearings on the motor will cause the motor to run kind of noisy. When the motor starts making noises, the solution to this problem is to replace the motor.
The belt:

The belt on most dryers is only about1/4 inch wide. These belts work very hard making the drum tumble. When the belt stretch just 1/2 inch more that it supposed to, the belt will start slipping and that could cause your Whirlpool dryer to be noisy.
As you could see, there are a lot of parts that could become noisy in your dryer. When your dryer starts making noises, make sure to check it out before it gets worse.
