Sounds like messed up settings. I believe that you have chosen the maintain aspect ratio option. You should select the panel fit(no border) option to fix it. If you don't know how to do this then let me know the make and model of your graphics card(onboard or otherwise) so that I can solve your problem. You can check it by opening device manager. Start->run->type in devmgmt.msc . Then click the + sign next to display adapters and let me know what ever appears there.

    hi - it shows

    NVIDIA Geforce 6150S nforce 430

monitor shows a generic PnP monitor

what else do you need from me- sorry I am such a doofus

    :)

  • darryl cole Jul 11, 2010

    also what is VGA?

  • darryl cole Jul 11, 2010

    you still there?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Jul 11, 2010

You should give an expert time to respond my friend! Anyways before we mess with the graphics settings we will try adjusting the horizontal position of the image from the monitor's menu. VGA means visual graphics array. Simply put it's a port through which most monitors are connected to pc unless you are using a HD monitor in case of which you will probably be using dvi. Please get me the make and model of you monitor so that I can help you adjust the hpos first

hi- sorry if i seemed impatient-just a little frustrated i guess.

the monitor is a gateway 19" hd - listed in my device display as a PnP generic

there is a menu button on right side but my mouse is unable to access it as the area is missing from my screen

Its ok not a problem. However you did not get me the model no of your monitor. The menu system kind of varies from model to model. Just take a look at the back of the monitor. There should be a small label that has the model number of the unit.

    eagle338 Jul 13, 2010

Ok so it cannot be done from the monitor. We have to try it from the Nvidia utility itself. DO you see it running in the taskbar? If yes then right click on it and tell me what you see. I remember seeing an option that says panel fit but its been a while since I have used an nvidia card so don't remember.

  • darryl cole Jul 13, 2010

it does not show but i looked in devices and there are several nvidia areas- none says panel fit......

    eeek..

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Jul 13, 2010

Download this driver, install it, reboot and try again. It should probably have it. You can access the option from the Nvidia utility in the system tray only.

  • darryl cole Jul 13, 2010

one more thing- when I bot this computor it came with a sample ( free) version of windows 7 but the person who set my stuff up for me ( transferred files from my old hard drive etc) said the system is too unweildy and explained that the free trial would expire and then I would get hit with a bill from microsoft. he put in the program from his office which I believe is a windows 2000- could this be the cause of my problems? Do not think so, as the picture problem started right after the comcast guy came to set up the new hookup and before the "friend" did the other install.

    Am I totally messed up-????

    Mahalo for your help again

    eagle338 Jul 13, 2010

No this is a graphics driver related issue. It can be solved. Dont worry. Download the driver from the link I have sent you in my last post(64-bit version). Its for Windows XP and Windows server 2003.

  • darryl cole Jul 13, 2010

now it is telling me i am not using the 64- eeek- is there a way I can get rid of the windows 7 without totally screwing up( forgive my language)?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Jul 13, 2010

Yes you can get rid of it. All you need is a bootable CD of Windows XP or Vista. If you want to go for XP you can get an OEM version for as low as 50 bucks. We can then install XP by erasing only the Windows 7 files and none of your original files will be lost except those in the documents folder. So I strongly advice you to back up everything you have in there. Once you have the CD in hand let me know and I will tell you how to install it without formatting the drive.

  • darryl cole Jul 14, 2010

unfortunately the only files I have are in the document folder-- will try to back up -is this the only way to get rid of windows 7 and still keep the other windows program?

muchas gracias, merci and mahalo again

  • eagle338

Yes the only other way is a format which I do not recommend.

Hello,

From what i can deduce, the problem is that the picture board on your monitor has started malfunctioning, since the power led or button is on, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer within your vicinity or any service center to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself, in order not to complicate issues.

Take care.

Your screen has gone 1/8'' right. You have to locate either from your screen or from your VGA settings a button that can move the picture at the center of the screen. Try to locate a reset button at the screen and press it in order to come at the default settigs. Since I don't know your VGA or your screen I can't provide you more details. If you'd like give me these details.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply.
If you are satisfied, accept my solution.

Cross Fingers I need assistance and description. Hard (10) Level 25

Sorry that I dont have pictures...but if you take the piece in the middle and move it all the way down into the black section up against the left side. Then take the piece on the right and move it into the black section against the right side. Then take the piece that you moved to the left in the black section and move it to where the piece on the right side started and then the right side piece should also be moved directly under that first piece. This will allow the large piece to slide down into the black section. From there it should be fairly easy to finish.

Black bar on the top and bottom during watching the tv

Hello

If you are watching television and you see black lines on the left and right sides of the screen, check to see if you are watching an HD broadcast or a standard definition broadcast. You can do this by bringing up the TV guide menu on your remote. If the show is in HD, it should take up the full screen. However, if it is not HD, bars will be present on the left and right of the screen. That is because standard definition programing is in 4x3, which will not take up the entire screen.

If the picture you are watching not only has black bars on the sides, but on the tops and bottoms of the screen as well, your "Zoom" mode has somehow gotten off-kilter. Press the "Zoom" button on the remote until the image appears correct. If this does not work, power down the television, wait a few moments, and power the TV back on. The image should be correct now.

If the image on the screen looks stretched or squished, this is because your HD cable receiver is not set up properly for your widescreen television. Press the "Menu" button on the receiver

Picture not centered on my philips 47'' lcd tv

NOTE:(Edited and copied from another thread on Fixya.com, c7carl)

Picture is not centered on monitor leaving a 2 1/2 inch; black border on Philips LCD
By dmorrow54 on Nov 13, 2007
Again, nothing in manual for Philips LCD will correct the fact that the picture in HD-D mode will not center. The picture runs off the monitor on the left (facing the monitor) with a 2 1/2" black border on the right (facing the monitor). Using the format button on the remote of directional arrows will not correct the issue. The wide-screen/ full-screen function with format does nothing. Moving into TV mode, the format function works to display screen in several ways 4:3, 19:2, super-zoom, wide-screen, full-screen. Help, please. posted 3 years ago

I have a Philips 30 inch LCD and solved the problem by using the circular arrow button on the TV remote. Pointing it at the TV and clicking "right" (3 o'clock on the button), the picture moved right. Same thing on for "left". Worked for me.

WOW! It works!! The picture on my Magnavox (aka Philips) 37MF321D had shifted to the right. I figured I had a big repair bill coming up soon. But hey! Just used the TV remote as described by "Guest', and re-centered the picture to the left. Wallah! Thanks ""Guest" whomever you are! Reply
