HP L7780 printer.Bought in Nov 2007 online from circuit City. Has worked well for two and a half years.Over the last two weeks, printer repeats the last minute or two of its startup routine several times. Today, July 11, 2010, still has problems with startup routine. Also top edge of letters on several lines are truncated or appear slighty smeared. My wife had replaced a black XXL ink cartridge 2 days ago. Noticed cartridge had a USE BY date of Dec 2009 on the big plastic package and had 2010/06/25 printed directly on the cartridge. Replaced cartridge with new one that was not outdated but same problems. Unplugged printer power cord from battery backed up power. Powered back up. Same two problems but top of two capital letters now barely truncated or appeared smudged.

I bought a presario from circuit city last year, and I paid $200 to downgrade to XP. Everything was fine until it crashed last week. IT went completely bizzerk. HP won't provide support, cause I changed it. Circuit City is out of business, not much help there.
1. Press the OK button to bring you back.
2. Press the menu button repeatedly until paper size comes up
3. Use arrows to change paper size from automatic to whatever size you are looking for.
4. Start Copy
Hopefully you kept copies of the rebate and receipt in case you have to prove it. I would contact the folks where I sent the rebate to. If you get no resolution this way, see if Circuit City would take care of you. I had this happen with a store online, and they gave me part of my rebate back and store credit and it wasn't even their screw up, and this was a year later. I would also Google and see if anyone else has had this issue on this deal.
I had the exact same problem but never could get my Mac to work wirelessly with my 7780 even though the box said it was wireless and worked with OSX....false advertising. Enough of the problem though.
I set up my printer through my Airport Extreme network. That solution worked sporadically. I would get error messages that the computer could not open the printer. I found clicking the "pause" print button and then clicking "resume" would often work but needless to say that became a pain.
So, my IT guy set the printer up through it's IP address over my airport extreme network. The printed has worked flawlessly for the last week since this change but.....the fax no longer works and now the scanner takes about 3 minutes per page.
Overall, I have been a die hard HP fan for years but after the nightmares with the L7780, I will NEVER use another HP product. The item cost me about $459 but I have lost or spent over $5,000 in diminished productivity and IT charges and it STILL DOESN'T WORK AS ADVERTISED!
Since buying the L7780 printer for our business office two years ago, the printer has been a work horse for us. The problems I've seen online about scanning, paper jams and ink cartridge issues have been none existent. Then it was time to change the print head. The L7780 printed several pages before the print head error messageappeared and the printer ceased printing. We tried all the solutions offered online including another print head and cartridges but to no avail. We were ready to buy a new printer. Then a member our team whom we dubbed “Service Tech 130” came up with the solution.Service Tech 130 simply pried the chips off both print heads with a screw driver and super glued the old chip onto the new print head. Now the printer has been working as if nothing was every wrong. For this to work for those of you having the same problem, you would have to be in possession of the old print head that worked prior to the error.Attached is an image showing the location of the chip.Hope this works for you as it did for us.
I bought Same Monitor Dec. '06 and Jus last week It faded to black and then now doesn't power on. my protection plan sent me a new one that powered on for like 20 secs. So now I have another one coming. I also knows its not my PC cuz I'm using a monitor right now. I think Proview and Circuit City Sucks
