Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I am trying to hook up Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter with speedbooster. I insert the setup CD, it goes through the setup and prompts me to turn off my computer and install the adapter. I do this, but when I turn my computer back on it does not open up the installation CD to finish the process.

1. Try setting your PC to boot from CD first
2. Try copying the CD files onto disk and run from there
3. The CD that came with my Linksys didn't work. I had to download the latest software from Linksys

Can't get wireless card to install

This is strange, and it sounds like you've done everything right, but.....have you tried a reverse install?

Remove the card, un-install all the drivers and remove the device from the device manager if the uninstall doesn't do it.

Shut the machine down (turn it off)

Install the Linksys card in your available PCI slot.

Start the machine back up. When the Found New Hardware message pops up, follow the prompts from there instead. Your PC may be able to load drivers it already has. If not and if it asks for a disk, then use the CD you got with the card.

All of this assumes the card is ok to use with XP

I am trying to connect to a wireless internet network

If you have Wireless networks available, and you just need a network adapter for the system, here is a good suggestion:

The adapter connects to the system via USB, and setup is pretty simple

Adding Dell Dimension 4600 to existing wireless network?...

Go to Staples and purchase a Linksys USB wireless-G (only G needed - the new "N" protocol is overkill) adapter (~$60.00). Insert the Linksys CD and follow the instructions. When prompted, plug the USB adapter into the Dell (frt or back) doesn't matter. If his "roomies" have security enabled on their router, you'll need to know the level, password/passphrase, and the network name that they assigned.
Good luck.

Usb 2.0 ports not working on my emachines T3504

You may need to uninstall your current usb's and let Windows redetect them.

click on START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL, SYSTEM. Click on tab HARDWARE, click on DEVICE MANAGER. Scroll down to UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLER. Delete everything there. Click on ACTION, SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES. It should redetect and you should be good.

We have windows XP desk top. Can't install the drivers for the DWA-111 but the router works fine.

What specific error message/s does your computer prompt when you trying to install the wireless USB adapter? Since your running Windows XP you can skip on "run the CD first", try uninstalling all the componets for the adapter then restart the computer, when the computer is booted up properly insert the USB adapter(preferably used the USB port on the back of your desktop for maximum power). When the found new hardware wizard pops up, choose install software automatically(make sure that the setup CD for the USB adapter is already loaded on the CD-ROM drive then hit next.
If the installation proceeds click on finish a bubble should appear on the lower right hand side of your dekstop screen(syatem tray) prompting you that one or more wireless network is being detected, click the baloon and check if your network will show up on the list.

Installed WMP54GS and am getting the following error from Linksys Wireless Network Monitor Access violation at address 0040744D in module WMP54GSv1_1.exe'. Read of address 00000368

Possibly you have installed the WLAN monitor also that is why it is creating the error...try these settings... Reboot your computer in SafeModeUninstall the software for the Adapter from start >> All programs/Remove the Drivers from Device Manager...Turn your computer Off and connect the adapter in a different PCI Slot...Reboot your computer in Normal Mode...
>> Insert the Setup CD in the cd drive>> Click on Exit when the
Linksys welcome screen appears>>Click on start. Unplug & replug adapter ...>> There should be a "" Found New Hardware Wizard ""
that pops up on your screen>> Click on “Install software
automatically “, and then click on next. Once the installation is
complete>> Right click on the wireless network connection icon in the
system tray besides the clock >>Click on view wireless networks and
then connect to your network name...

I have a laptop im trying to set up wireless i have everything i need but dont know how to do it .i also have linksys wireless router as well as a chip that goes to the taptop with a wireless linksys can...

Well Betty can you tell me what type of laptop do you have? Is it fairly new. Some laptops already have wireless cards installed in them.
However on the PC not the laptop...... before hooking anything up insert the software CD from linksys. This will advise you when to hook it up and should also give you some very good pictures on how it should look.
Now provided this goes as simple as it sounds lets reboot that laptop and see if it does not see the wirless router you just set up. If it doesnt I can try and assist you with plan B.
The goal here is to stay away from the difficulties of alot of settings. Good Luck and I will be watching for your response.
I wont see this until tommorrow evening as I am trveling to some sites and wont land in my motel until evening.
