Question about Canon i250 InkJet Printer

Canon i250 Error Message 5520 plus 8 orange led flashes + 1 green

My Canon i250 is constantly throwing up the '5200' error message with the orange LED flashing eight times, then on to green, then back to eight orange flashes.

I have done a through cleaning of all of the guts, rollers, etc., including washing out and thoroughly drying the waste ink absorber pads. Also, I have cleaned the print head cleaner pads and, with great care, the print head itself, but none of that that has made any difference.

After the service and cleaning, I have also tried various re-boot and 'clear error message' procedures as suggested on different web sites, but none of them clear the error message or re-set the machine.

Each time I try to run the machine from 'cold boot', it goes through the usual start-up processes as though it is going to function normally, but it the simply goes back to the 8 orange flashes error status and the print head 'parks' over the head cleaner pads at the right hand side of the carriage.

Is this a 'terminal' problem, or can it be easily rectified? If it can be rectified, what is the correct procedure?

Well this error message means "printhead over heating" but more often than not, its just a false alarm. Unplug all cables(USB, power etc.,) and hold for a minute. Hopefully the error message will be reset. If not then it may indeed be a problem with the printhead and its time to get another.

Thank you for your response. However, my advice is that error message 5200 is a 'waste ink absorber pads full' warning and, as I explained, I have already given the machine a total clean but that did not resolve the problem.

However, since posting this inquiry I have encountered a more serious problem in that my HP 6100 Pavilion laptop has gone 'belly-up', lost the display (a common fault with what I now learn is a very unreliable and unpopular computer), a problem which I told is economically terminal for the machine.

As an emergency measure I have had all data transferred to another laptop we have (Asus X58) running Vista and, after downloading an i250 driver compatible with Vista, the printer worked normally with the error message no longer evident. Whether this is permanent or not remains to be seen, but I have also been provided with a utility (i350tool\i350tool_Win2kV100) which I am told should be able to reset error messages.

Canon i550 LED error sequence: 7 orange +1 green flash

According to Canon 7 orange flashes indicates a print head fault. Solution they recommend is to take it to one of their service agents. Problem is that replacement print heads are not cheap and it is usually more economical to replace the printer. You could try taking the print head to a cartridge refiller and have it professionally cleaned (cost you nothing or next to nothing) and see if that solves the problem.
