Hello,

You said the adcom amp has fuses, how come you are asking how many fuses are in the amp?

I know for sure that there is a fuse on the power board, and there are other fuses on the speaker channel. The fuses are fast blown fuse type, they can blow/cut once excess power enters into the amp or if the volume is too high such that its over working the amp, or if there is a speaker bridge.

The fuse on the channel will blows if there is bridge of speaker wires and the fuse on the power board will blow if excess power enters the amp.

Good luck.

Adcom GFA 7500 problems

My right channel went out on my GFA 7500 and the problem was TWO blown internal fuses. Each amplifier inside the GFA 7500 has two fuses. In order to get to the fuses you must first take the top of the amplifier off by removing the screws using an allen wrench. Then put the top back on.Turn the amplifier over and remove most of the screws from the bottom to access the fuses in the bottom of the amplifier. There are two different size allen wrenches on the bottom. Be careful to not drop a screw inside the amp and make sure you line up the screw holes that hold the amps using a small screw driver to push the amps into position. I replaced all the fuses on the top and the bottom. AdCom sells the fuses on their site.

My adcom 5400 amp is causing distortion in the left and right ouputs. it started doing this the other day after a lot of music playing. i wanna know whats wrong with it

THE AMP HAS 4 FUSES INSIDE, 2 PER CHANNEL. YOU NEED TO CHECK THESE FUSES. BE CAREFULL, HIGH VOLTAGE- UNPLUG POWER CORD AND LET THE AMP STAY FOR COUPLE HOURS. REPLACE ONLY WITH PROPER VALUE FUSES 5AMP. IF BLOWN AGAIN, NO MORE ATTEMPT TO REPLACE - YOU NEED TO SEND IT TO REPAIR FACILITY LIKE THIS

On the inside back wall of the 1986 Adcom GFA-555 Stereo Power Amplifier there are four fuses, two for each channel. Would you tell me please, what amp fuse they are and if they are the fast or slo-blow...

Sorry to contact you this way but i've spoken to an older colleague of mine and it appears that before 1992 in the Adcom GFA-555 they were using bipolar transistors and the amp was rated fo a minimal impedance of 4 ohms - not like in the newer ones that have MOSFETs and are rated for 1 ohm in bridge mode. So the fast fuses that you need are of 6 amps , not 20 like in the newer models.
Sorry for my mistake.

My adcom gfa 555 produces out of only one channel now

Swap the RCA's on the back left to right and right to left. If the same speaker is not playing, the problem is in the amp. If the problem migrates to the other channel, check your connection at the source and try another source directly hooked up to the amp. If you still have a channel out, pop the top of the amp and check for a channel fuse. some have them some don't. It depends on the generation of the amp, some just use capacitors and transistors which would require a trip to the service center. Great amp! not much on the radar as a troubled piece of electronics!. Also, swap speaker outputs as well to rule out a bad speaker. Hope this helps

Adcom gfa 555 blows the 10 amp fuse and the 6 amp fuse on the far right

Any fuse blowing is caused by a shorted component in either the power supply section or main audio amp part. Follow the fuse circuit and see where it leads you. Look around for burnt of damaged parts. Suspect anything sitting on a heat sink. The most common culprit is the audio amp main transistors, especially if someone shorted the speaker leads together. In the power part it could be the transformer, the large Electrolytic capacitors, rectifier, or voltage regulator. Some amps use an IC for amplification and this can blow the fuse.

How to bridge GPA 555 adcom amp from 8 om to 4 om

First of all, when bridging an anp, the impenence that it can handle usually goes UP not down. I don't believe that the GPA555 can be bridged without circuit modification.
