Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera
Camera power 'off'' - remove battery and clean the contacts (shiney metal strips) on the battery. Now remove lens and clean the lens contacts also. put a cap on the camera (no lens) Reinstall the charged battery and turn on the camera. It should start up. If so, turn it back off and reinstall the lens.
Also ensure the battery cover and CF card slot covers are both
closing and latching correctly The camera won't operate if it thinks
either cover is open.
Try taking the card out and switching on the camera.
One of the start up tasks is to check the card and if the card fails those checks, the camera won't start.
Especially if the last thing you had the camera do was a card operation.
The card is protected against the camera being switched off when being written to as the camera will finish before shutting down, but pulling the battery is a definite no-no.
As the manual says...
"Never do the following when the access lamp is lit or blinking. Such actions may destroy the image data. It may also damage the CF card or camera.
*Shaking or banging the camera around.
*Opening the CF slot cover.
*Removing the battery."
There are sensors on the battery and memory card doors. Make sure those doors are closed and the contacts are not corroded. If that's not the case it may be the card, or even the battery. If that's not the case then it will need to get looked at by Canon.
also try connecting the camera to a computer. Sometimes that can help.
Your camera should power on without a card in it, try that as well.
Neither is the lens required to power the camera, take it off too.
If all that fails, CPU board could be broke because of heavy lens on the camera and the mode dial is somewhat poorly placed. See if there's any play or movement in the dial that isn't normal. Wiggle it, turn to a different mode, press it down gently (don't cause more damage if that's what is wrong).
If all the above fails at this point it would be a better option to have it serviced.
Good luck with your Fix
