Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. You’ll need to check the X and Y sustain buffer boards. When either of these boards goes bad common problems include negative image, no image, vertical or horizontal stripes on picture, turns on and than turns off, and many more. You’ll need to open the back off the TV and check for any swollen/bulged capacitors on these boards and replace whichever has gone bad. If still the issue is not resolved, then please check the power supply board. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise and know how to solder/re-solder components as these units contain high voltages even when in off position. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Good one (great description).

Power-board...!

Those gum-wrapper capacitors they are using can snap when they croak.

Have fun save $$$$

(but take lots of detailed pictures BEFORE you start).

Akai rear projection tv suddenly stopped working.

This set with Akai is actually made by Samsung (they own and use the Akai name).

If lamp light etc and you have heard a cracking sound it may be the color wheel.

You can remove the lamp and look where it faces--look and the wheel can be seen----is it shattered or missing plastic pieces?

The wheel commonly fails in this fashion and is turning at over 12,000 rpm. The set will detect if the wheel is stopped or moving too slow and just what you describe will happen.

Wheel is widely available and You Tube has video instructions for replacing them by model number.

Check to see what input setting the tv is on. It could still be looking for a signal from the pc input connection and no pc is hooked up thus getting no signal. Have the device you are trying to display on the tv connected and turned on and cycle through the inputs on the tv until you get a signal.

I heard a pop in the TV and then the screen went red. I can still hear it and watch it but everything is red. Is it a bulb that needs replacing? If not, what is it? Can I do it myself or will I have to...

Several failures can cause a red picture but it sounds like if you are connected from the source with component video cables(red, blue, green)you may just have a bad cable, but you may have had a blue and/ or green projection gun failure, which would cause the red gun to over power the other colors(blue/green), if this is the case definently not worth the cost to repair, you have to replace all three guns at the same time costing $500+ to repair, invest that towards a nice new LCD panel TV. Good luck !

My recommendation is to call a local svc co. Since you heard a pop, it could be anywhere in the set. It requires trouble shooting to isolate where the problem is. I hope this is help-full for you.

AKAI PDP4273M1 - Unit powers up then shuts down.

I just repaired one for the same trouble. The input to the main processor from the standy switch had shorted to groung. This was probably caused by static inserted when pushing the power button. The processor is not a replaceable part. The part number for the main board is E3761-058010-2. It costs between $140 and $150. I found it on-line at Shopjimmy.com.
Good Luck!

I cannot see the video when i plug the DVD Player to my TV set. The model is AKAI ADVC-7013

start with the sound , do you have some speakers or amp that can take rca connnectors if so plug in to audio out and if you hear sound then the video is presumed ok too , likely some setting or cable issue then.
if no sound the the proc amp is shot.
