Hi,
There can be a couple of things that could be happening...
The first and easiest thing is to check the air filter. Make sure that it is clean... clean it or replace it. Next check the air vents to make sure that they are open and giving you good air flow...
Also check to make sure that you are not icing up on the indoor coil... ice will tell you that you are low on refrigerant. You also could be low and not be icing over, but you would need to have gauges on the unit to check that.
Finally check and clean the outdoor coil...this also can give you problems if the heat is not being removed from the outdoor unit efficiently...
You may also have a unit that is sized in such a way that it hits the balance point at about 85...that means that your heat gain is equal to the capacity of the unit...I often try to size them for about that here in Northern PA. because wqhen seldom get hotter then that and the unit then is much more effective at removeing humidity at lower temperatures...

You can also check out the tips that I have wrote about Air conditioninghow to clean the components, unit keeps freezing - 2_bing.gif trouble shooting and maintenance...

Here is one about cleaning the condenser coil and at the bottom of that one are links to others..

Tip

Whirlpool single/double oven NO HEAT AFTER SELF CLEAN

Problem: you have just cleaned your oven
now the unit won't heat at all.

Solution: There is a thermal cutoff in the very back of the unit
YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO TURN THE POWER OFF
take the unit out of the hole
take the back panel off
you will find to the upper left the thermal cutoff
it's a round component with 2 wires going to it either 2 orange or 2 red wires
take it off if you have an ohm meter check continuity
if you have no continuity it is bad

Tip: Go to FRYs or maybe home depot
The stuff you need is called FREEZE IT
with gloves on or just stick the component on the ground upside down
spray the FREEZE IT to the back of the component till it turns white
get your screw driver and tap the back of it a couple of times
check for continuity if you have regained continuity
put it back on and put unit back together
You should be back in business
if you cannot find FREEZE it try sticking it in the freezer overnight
then tap on with screw driver/check continuity
if the continuity never comes back then you are going to have to replace that part.
But for the most part this usually works.

Ac unit in the house keeps freezing up, not a window unit, central unit. The entire part inside keep freezing up, making knocking noise, and not blowing cool air. The out side part is fine, no problems...

There is a coil out side in the unit , it needs cleaning, there is an acid that is used to clean it. Its an easy job, pull the top open and use a stick or something to keep it up so you can spray the coil, with the unit off let soak 10 mins then spray wash with water hose. done

Drain line on rheem raka037jaj cenyral air unit not draining and cois freeze up

Hello, coils will freeze either to low airflow or low refrigeramt charge. Make sure filter, blower wheel and evaporator coil are clean. If they appear clean there is a low refrigerant charge.

The unit keeps freezing up solid even on energysaver

Change or clean the filter and clean both coils, no air flow or reduced air flow, the coil will freeze. It will also freeze if its set to cold 72 min. setting. Example if your room temp is 72 degrees, than the air will be 52, and the coil temp is 32 degrees, any moisture will freeze. Hope this helps

My coils are freezing up

Make sure the filter is clean and plenty of air comes through, when coils freeze it is usually caused by low air flow coupled with lots of humidity and low air temperature in the space to be cooled. Clean the filter, fan and gently brush all dust and debris from the intake of the cold coil and retry it. If the basement is already cool and you are trying to dehimidify you should use a dehumidifier that features defrost controls.

What do we do if the unit keeps freezing?

Upgrade to the newest firmware, since 3.0 had some freezing issues with some games, if your internet connection is slow this would also cause it to freeze up, make sure your game disc is clean and you can also use a cleaner avalible at the store that will clean the laser eye inside your unit

Ref/Freezer will not defrost. Keeps freezing up inside both unit

one of three components have failed, either the defrost timer, defrost thermostat or the defrost heater. Find the timer and turn it into a defrost, you should hear the heat crackling in the freezer section. This is a problem easily fixed by a technician
