Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV19 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
This is a common problem with most of the Sony handycams. These symptoms are highly suggestive of bad image sensor. One thing needs to be checked that your iris is not set to manual and is closed. Since the viewfinder takes the image from the sensor, i am almost certain that image sensor is at fault. You need to contact Sony,if they are repairing it for free ( recalls were there for few models ) or at discounted price or you need to pay the complete repair amount or upgrade it.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Before deciding whether it is required to open the unit and check out for any faulty parts.... usually the Ribbon cables or CCD image sensor (if there is no play back only while recording).....
tap around the lens area with a hard object (tip of a screwdriver) and it works! It may be well worth you tapping the case in this way (without pulling the camcorder to bits) on the top, about an inch back from the front of the lens a couple of times. Since you say that it was working fine off late this should mostly do the trick. a pen rather than a screw driver would also suffice and wack a little bit around the lens and it should work. do this with the camera on so you would see the screen come back on. And let me just say, you dont have to wack right on the glass part of the lens, around it does the trick.
if that does not do the trick . It is adviced that you would be required to replace the ribbon cables. find below the link which you can use as a reference to replace your ribbon cable this is not an exact model as you have and should only be used as a reference.
If your cam doesnt show picture only while recording then its the CCd image sensor problem which i would not advice you to handle it unless you are comfortable doing it. there are thousands of minute parts inside the handy cam a wrong nudge here and there would ruin the cam than what it already is.
If your cam is under warranty please do not try these fixes as it would void your warranty. Its always a better thing to call on sony support and explain them your problem. coz these are very common problems and they could have a service recall for your model where they would do the repair free of cost.
good luck with your Fix
