Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

My GW709 toploader is giving me the shits!!! First of all, on initial startup the taps open, but then close, causing the machine to pause. It tries again every 5 seconds or so, but the same problem persists until what I think is a fault code comes up (3rd & 5th green LED, orange LED between rinse & spin and red spin LED light up simultaneously). Thinking that the taps might be on their way out, I tried manually filling the tub and starting the cycle that way, but the machine does the same thing i.e. start-stop-start-stop-etc until the same fault code comes up. About three weeks ago I pulled the machine apart to give the clutch a thorough clean. It was working perfectly after that, until now. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!

The fault code is 51 and it signifies a diverter valve fault. The Motor Controller Module has detected a drop in water level in the recirculation phase, water is being drained instead of recirculated. Check for blockage in the diverter valve itself or a broken hinge mechanism. Check the resistance of the diverter valve solenoid which is between 700 and 2500 ohms when good and approximately 100 VAC is supplied across its terminals. Check also the wiring connections of the diverter valve to the Motor Controller Module. You may have to replace both the diverter valve and Motor Controller Module when the former has failed especially when water is sprayed onto the valve from an external source and caused the solenoid to blow.
