What is happening is that the Shutdown Circuit is turning the TV off due to excessive current flow. The excessive current flow is most likely the result of a problem in the HV (High Voltage) section of your TV. This could mean that the Horizontal Output Transistor or the Integrated High Voltage Transformer has malfunctioned (developed a short circuit). I would advise that you let a qualified TV technician work on the set due to the nature of this problem.
My picture would go out after several minutes but I still had sound. I
took the rear cover off and blew all the dust off with compresed air.I
did this for a few times over several days nothing happened.I also took
off the rear circuit board that attaches to the tube with a round pin
socket and blew that with compressed air and put it back on. The TV has
now worked for two days without the picture going out. It
worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My TV is 9 years old.
hello, you do have a horrizontal problem, you may have a short parts on the said section, shorted horrizontal output transistor can couse this indicator to blink. when a shorted transistor then you may have a defective FBT. try to check some parts. ty
There are many possibilities and most of them have to do with the "D" board, Sony p/n# A1346948A but testing is something generally beyond the scope of those less than technically equipped. You could order the whole board and put it in but that might be more than the simple fix you wanted or you wouldn't be here. So my best advice is to take it in to a qualified shop and have them estimate and repair it.. I see 3 or 4 of these sets in my shop a month, Sony XBR, and they're still very much worth the repair..
If the screen flashed when the TV made a popping sound, then I would suspect an intermittent heater to cathode short in the picture tube. When this happens, it usually takes out one to three output IC packs located on the CRT drive board. Even if you replaced the defective output packs which are soldered in and attached to metal heat sinks to restore the picture, the CRT could short again and redo the damage. For a 20 inch screen it is probably not worth repairing.
Your set migbe missing the high voltage that lights up the picture tube, you need to check for loose conections starting at the horizontal drive transistor and transformer ,then check the horizontal output transistor for short,it needs to be checked with a meter if the output is shorted it probably open a safey fuse or resistor to prevent more damage. If you are familiar with tv service this will give a place to star but if you are not too familiar be safe and seek the help of a servicer.Let Us know if you need more information.
