How do I get a dial tone.can answer the phone.just cannot dial out

I am NOT familiar with YOUR make and model of phone, BUT.... I've had several cordless phone systems over many years, and have had the same problem that you describe. First, here is some background info for you:

The telephone company systems USUALLY have two different dialing systems:
  1. The "old" ROTARY DIALS worked by MECHANICALLY sending out different numbers of electrical pulses which the MECHANICAL "receivers" at the phone company "Central Office" buildings would read and thus connect you to the dialed number.
  2. Some years ago, a "new" dialing system was initiated. That system was called Dual-Tone-Multi-Frequency [or for short, DTMF].
DTMF uses BUTTON KEYS which put out a different electronically generated TONE [related to] for each different NUMBER key pushed, and THAT series of tones told/tells the phone company Central Office receiver computer the number to which you wanted to be connected.

Around the world over the years, most phone companies have, and still use one of these two dialing systems, AND...

Most cordless phone manufacturers designed their phones to work WITH EITHER system, BUT....

The customer IS REQUIRED to "SELECT" which system his phone company uses, while the customer is "SETTING UP" his/her new cordless phone.

THAT process IS INCLUDED in ALL cordless phone set-up instruction packages I've ever seen!!!!!!

Either you need to carefully read and study YOUR installation-set-up instructions and then PROPERLY set your phone's dialing system [to PULSE or DTMF], OR GET SOMEONE who KNOWS WHAT he, or she is doing to do it for you.

I, and I think no one else is able to guide you via back and forth messaging on this site. At least I know I can't because I'm not acquainted with your cordless phone, AND I don't have an instruction/set-up manual to consult!!!!!

Track down your manual, OR search for a replacement manual; the dialer system selection process is NOT DIFFICULT IF you have the manual!!!!!!!

We have a Siemens a38h but it won't display 'caller ID'. We understood that the phone would display who was calling us. Any suggestions?

Just because you buy a CID phone, it doesn't give you CID. You have to have the service from your dial tone provider and it has to be in the same format as the phone. There are two major types, called FSK and DTMF. Most countries use the first, a Bell standard where the ID is sient between the first and second ring as a modem tone, but some countries use a "touch tone" format.

It would be best to call your dial tone provider and ask them if they are sending it and what format.

Is it possible to have the kx-t7730 work on DTMF? My operator says thats the only way I can access some added services

It will, but you may have it programmed to not send DTMF in SYSTEM programming. Since the 7730 is backward compatible to every KX-T system Panasonic made, you need to post a model number of they phone system to get instructions.

Are you in a rotary dial phone system area? There are 3 ways to program dialing, rotary, tone, and suppressed. The 3rd one will ONLY send pulse dial and inhibits the audio. It may be that you can press # and force DTMF. In the last 20 years or so, we have never had to worry about that as our phone companies no longer charge for "touch tone".

My KX-T7030 phone will not send a tone during a call, so I cannot "Press 1" or any number to use automated options. It does dial numbers ok??

If it dials O.K., try pressing # and see if it turns on the DTMF pad. You could have pulse dial on outside calls enabled, and that would keep the keypad in pulse mode until it's told to send tones.

This is really only a guess. The type of dialing is programmed in CO trunks and it's possible it's been set to Call Blocking! It is designed to send pulse only and block the audio of DTMF so the CO won't get confused. You might start with changing the Type Dial to DTMF and test. If that doesn't work, try Pulse and test. Last, if that doesn't work, you will need to keep call blocking and try the # after dialing.

Please comment back if it does or doesn't work. We don't see much pulse dial around here.

My phone wont allow me to use the buttons when requested to in an outgoing call is there some i can do

Do you hear clicking when pressing keys rather than tones?
If your problem is Telephone banking, voice menus, etc are not recognising your key presses, a common cause is a switch setting on some phones gets bumped by users. Some phones have a switch at the side, top or underside for either Tone /Pulse, some label it DTMF / DEC. If you have this switch, ensure it is set to TONE or DTMF.

DTMF is techno-speak for tone dialing (as opposed to pulse). Your GE phone is DTMF.

Keypad tones

Hi, the DTMF tones are controlled by Program 35, LED 17on a per port basis. This is the Station Class of Service program and should be changed by someone with programming experence

How do I set 1 touch dialing?

It's pretty much phone system dependent on the one touch, but PROG F button, 9+number STORE usually works.

As far as the calling into IVR systems, you may have to press # to send touch tones after you dial a number, or adjust the tone length in programming. Of course not all systems let you change DTMF times, but that's another thread :-)
