Spark plug wire will not stay on

Since I bought this machine the spark plug wire pops off all the time . I think I need a whole new spark plug wire. It is getting old having to put the wire back on the spark plug 10 to 15 times every time I cut the grass

Just an idea is there a lot of vibration on the cutting head as this can cause the problem or you might just have to replace the HT lead for a slightly longer one.

Had sparks from coil, bought new coil same problem, bought new distributor, now car will not even start

By distributor, is that the cap or the whole piece of aluminum- housing with stator assembly/ control module/shaft/rotor/cap, the whole sha-bang.
If it was the "whole" distributor & If it ran before you put the distributor in & you only had sparks then the distributor was installed wrong.
Check for spark at the end of the plug wires. If you have spark then its more likely the distributor is in wrong &/or the firing order is off.

Had a noise like a lifter pulled the plug wire off the front cilinder and the noise was gone

Now, the question is "what happens if you put the wire back on"? If you have put the wire back on and the engine is running correctly, the only thing I can think of is that the wire wasn't on good to begin with. What you were hearing was the spark popping under the spark plug cap. I used to set the initial timing on an engine using the pop of the spark plug. Simply turn the ignition switch on with the spark plug out of the head but lying on it. Rotate the engine and watch for the timing mark on the crankshaft. Notice the position of the timing mark when you heard the spark plug "snap".

If the spark plugs you use has the screw on ends where the plug wire connects, make sure you keep these tight.

Good Luck

1974 350 cutlass motor has timing issue how do i install a distributor and get motor to top dead center if that is indeed what i need to do you get the timing back to stock timing setup

Your going to have coil wire, then pull out number 1 spark plug, then you have to have to have someone put there finger in the number 1 spark plug hole as you turn the motor over slowly in little increments till his finger pops out of the whole then you know you'll be at top dead center. Then your new distributor should go right in

Okay the car has new gasket and new wires and the spark plugs wires pops out of the valve cover why is that

If you bought after-market spark plug wires, that is not from a dealer, than sometimes the spark plug boot may be a tad short or loose on the spark plug and will slip or pop off. Take them back to the supplier in exchange for a better brand.

Yes these optispark systems had all sorts of problems in wet weather most of the time you could replace the cap portion and that would solve it but most of the time I would replace the whole thing including new plug wires, coil wire, and spark plugs .Due to the fact that you have to remove water pump to access opti spark
