Do you mean the cursor is not responding? Are you using a mouse? Did you try to use another mouse such as a wireless mouse? If you need to check the touchpad to see what's wrong, it may be a little bit complicated to unpack the shell of your laptop if you don't like to deal with circuits and screws. You can update the driver of the touchpad and see whether that will work. That should come with the driver pack along with the basic or the motherboard driver and software packs. If you have recently installed some application, you might try to uninstall them if the issue persists.

INSPIRON 640M WILL NOT GO INTO SAFE MODE , IT GIVES OPTIONS BUT NONE OF THEM WORK , THEN IT GOES TO THE BLANK SCREEN.

Try going to safe mode manually. The steps mentioned below will help you accessing the safe mode

Step 1: Shut down your PC completely.
Step 2: Turn on the Power button.
Step 3: As soon as you turn it on start hitting the F8 key on your keyboard until you get to a black screen called "Windows Advanced option". (If you don't get to that that screen but you end up reaching the blue screen than that means you have delayed in hitting the F8 key. start again from step 1.)
Step 4: As soon as you reach "Windows Advanced option" use your down arrow keys to choose an option called "Safe Mode/Safe mode with networking".
Step 5: Select that and HIT ENTER.

Cannot start Sony VAIO PCG-5J2L /Goes to black screen only

During start-up the computer will go to a black screen for awhile and then the pointer arrow will show alone, and then the system will come up.

If you think it's a hibernation problem, pull the ac plug and battery out for about 1 hour and then plug back in.

If this didn't work, then try the F8 Key and choose "Last Know Good Configuration".

GATEWAY 310

I wonder if that is a computer virus.

Try putting the computer into safe mode by shutting the computer down, wait 30 seconds, turn if back on.

At the beginning of the boot press and hold down the f8 button. Use the up and down arrow keys to select safe mode and press enter.

After windows finishes starting up in safe mode, restart your computer the normal way.

If the login screen still appears that way and you can get into safe mode, I can tell you how to go into the control panel and change the login screen to the other mode. That should work then.
