Try unpluging everything but the ram and the video card and booting and keep adding one piece back in at a time until it stops booting and then you'll know what the bad piece is. If you get nothing w/ everything but the video card and ram pluged in try to borrow someone elses ram or video card to test those as well.

Dell inspiron one 2305 power supply short

This is due to a bad cable and/or LCD Inverter board. I would replace both. Had this problem before and it's definitely the pointing at the LCD Inverter and it's connectivity to the motherboard. Dont just by the board, get both board and cable, US$35 on Ebay.

My gateway just won't start up

Try holding the power button for about 6 seconds until it shuts down. Typically, when the light is fading in and out it is in standby mode. If that doesn't work and even after unplugging it - you may have a bad power supply and need a new one (that's the unit that the power cord plugs into and has a fan that always spins).

Same problem - No POST, Fan and CD light only

No POST is a big problem. CPU or motherboard is dead. You'll have to either start swapping replacement parts, or bring to a shop that can help you. Chances are that the work to replace it is almost as much as a new computer. What's your warranty like?

If you need to recover the data, remove the HDD and attach it to another computer via an enclosure, and backup the files. Then send the computer in for warranty (if it's still valid -- also, check w/ your warranty holder to make sure taking out your HDD will not void your warranty. Do this before you remove it. :) )

Power pack fan not booting but there is power on motherboard

Do you mean the power supply fan or the processor fan? Of the assemblies in a desktop, the power supply is the least reliable and the internal fan the most unreliable part. Since a failed fan can allow other parts of the supply to degrade, I recommend replacing the supply, not just the fan.
In eMachines, these are standard form factor (ATX) supplies so you would only need to order the same or higher power rating to have it compatible with your case.

Gateway MT6451 Does not turn on

Probably the mainboard or flaky power supply.

I'd start by replacing the power supply. Buy one you can use in a new machine, though... or "borrow" one from another machine.

Power

No beep and no fan can be a dead circuit in the powerpack, however if you have quiet fans like i do (virtually silent) then it maybe the bios or a dead motherboard. I recommend opening the computer case, discharge your body from any static (usually you can do this by touching the metal side of the computer) look for the CMOS or BIOS battery (which looks like an oversized watch battery) take it out and leave it out for 1-3 hours. After that you will have to program you BIOS ( date and time mainly) if it turns on..if not, then more than likely you have a dead motherboard and/or you might want to take it to a qualified computer expert asap.

Hi, i am workiing on an emachine T6420 for my brother and this thing starts up with the fans running and a black screen. my monitor that i connected to his computer shows a yellow standby light on the...

That's exactly what it sounds like. I would put in a new video card (or used one, if you have one) into one of the expansion slots and run it from there.

I would suggest to go into VGA mode just to make sure, but since your monitor never even gets off standby, I'd be 99% it's the onboard video.

Hope this helps!
