Question about Samsung HL-S5087W DLP TV
I have a Samsung HL S5687W XAA DLP made in 2006. This set will not stay on. I push the power button on the TV. The Map light flashes brightly and the adjacent light flashes dimly. The projection bulb is on. The flashes last about 15 sec followed by a strange tone and then the light shuts off. What could be wrong?
I believe the bulb is good and the ballast is good.
I cleaned the fans and observed both fans turning.
I remove the light assembly door and manually hold down the blue switch.
Problem still persist...
You might have the problem with your standby processor on it, that needs samsung technicians.

SOURCE: Grinding Noise
sounds like the light engine there are alot of problems with the light engines and quite a few have had a grinding noise. The only other possibility would be the color wheel. But I would lean heavier toward the light engine being the fault.

SOURCE: my samsung dlp tv hl-s5687w
I had the exact same problem with my TV turning off for no reason. If those two lights are blinking in the front it means your TV thinks the lamp door is open and shuts down. In my case i had to open the door and adjust the spring lever because it was not making good enough contact.
Hope that helps.

Was the replacement lamp the same part number as the original as there are different arc gaps for different lamps and the wrong arc gap will cause the lamp not to light. Since the ballast is powering up the lamp should light if the baalast is matched to the correct arc gap of the lamp being used.

Well for what you describe it sounds like the symptoms of a worn out lamp giving you the last kicks, basically the the lamps are design to go for 6,000 to 8,000 lamp hours if they're Phillips and a generic lamp could give you 3500 to 4500 lamp hours so with this in mind you could search for a new lamp at Discount-merchant.com or you can go to Ebay also you can go to www.fixyourdlp.com for more troubelshooting

Testimonial: "Very prompt solution to my problem, thank you. "
From what I have read the most frequent solution to this problem is that the lamp door has become loose and that microswitch on it needs to be reset. Simply loosen the screw to the lamp door and open it a little bit and then close it again making sure that the door is closed tightly and retighten the screw.
Unfortunately, the second most common problem is that the main DMD digital board has developed a problem which is much more expensive to replace.
