Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

We have a Rheem air conditioner that is 9 years old Model number RAKA 037-JAZ and have been having some issue with it. Last summer the condenser wasn't coming on so we have a friend who is a HVAC guy and he came over and cleaned it all out and then it worked great. At the beginning of this summer we started having the same issue, so we cleaned it out and it worked for a couple of weeks and then started to have problems again. One day, it ran all day and the temp stayed high when we went to look at the condenser we noticed that the fan was not running but we could hear the condenser working but it was louder than usual. After looking online we thought it sounded like the Capacitor was bad so again we talked to our HVAC friend and he ordered us the part and we changed it out. The condenser comes on now, and the fan is running but now we have no cold air coming into the house and it takes about 5 minutes for the a/c to come on after we set the temp to call for it but the air coming out is the same temp as the room air in the house. Is there anything else we can check or did we hook up the capacitor wrong?

It sounds like he got you a Hard Start Kit/Capacitor, that might explain
the five minute delay. When the fan is not operating the compressor will
make a loud noise..

Check to make sure insulated suction line is cold, that mgiht tell you that the compressor is working.

Check to make sure hot air is discharging out of the condensor.

If neither of these to things are happening and you think the compressor is on, it is possible that you are low on refrigerant.

Check to make sure your indoor blower is working, the filter is clean and check to see if you have condensation dripping from the indoor unit

Rheem AC raka-030jas. not cooling house. New filter, power to entire system, new batteries in thermostat, condenser coils cleaned, no ice on lines, indoor blower is working, outdoor condenser and fan

Its possible that you have too much Freon and also if the fan in the condenser is coming on you need to make sure the compressor is running too. Some of them are quiet. Grab the line and see if you can feel refrigerant running through them to see if the compressor is running.

What evap coil can be efficiently used with a 10 seer rheem raka-024jaz condenser

Hello, if the outside condenser is 2 ton than the inside evap coil should be 2 ton aswell. There are 12,000 btu's per ton and the number 024 in the model # represents btu's per ton so you have a 2 ton unit.

Rheem RAKA 037 JAZ

When power is applied to the motor try spinning the fan blade with a small object such as a stick, if this gets the motor going than the capacitor is faulty and must be replaced. The capacitor is located in the outdoor unit.

Depending on the brand and energy rating that price is probably in the ball park. I would go ahead and have the coil changed at the same time for best performance and to save more expense later.Hope this helps you. Thanks

The refrigerant needs to be recharged. You will need to call a licensed HVAC mechanic to re-charge it. It requires special tools, special training and if that isn't enough you can't buy the refrigerant without a license. This is a job best left to the professionals.

Need to know btu of rhem raka-024jaz Thanks

Hi, this is a Rheem 2 ton unit. For each ton of cooling, there are 12, 000 btu's. So your model number is a 024, that equals 24,000 btu's of cooling. Please don't forget to rate me on this. Thank you.

Rheem condensing unit fan motor failure?................3rd motor was replaced by contractor on 3 year old unit. Unit starts vibrating very badly and will also start vibrating when blocking airflow. All...

Could be the fan blade is the issue for vibration. Perhaps the blade was bent or somewhat damaged during failures or during the fan motor replacement process.

Might try replacing the blade. Be sure to install the correct blade. Pitch, number of blades as was on the original unit. If blade was replaced previously, the new blade may be pitched or sized incorrectly.
