    What is the brand of your CD burner? When do you see that error message? What software do you use for burning?

I checked the specification of your machine. If you are using the CD-RW with the machine, it should be a CD-RW/DVD-ROM -IDE. Can you check the label or manual of your blank CDs and see whether they are normal writable CD with about 650MB of capacity or DVD or other high density Discs such as BlueRay. Your CD-RW may not recogize the later ones. Sometimes the CD looks clear on the surface but if you read it, it is actually full. You can check the content of the CD and see whether it is full or damaged by scratches or dust. If it is blank, Windows will let you know and may ask you to format it. To disable any virtual CD software may also help because they might take some drive letters and access channels to the computer system for your real CD away.

My cd burner does not recognize a blank disk to burn. It keeps asking me to insert a blank disk even though I had just put a new blank disc in.

Are you putting the type of CD's it accepts?

Many burners will only accept specific disk types, such as most won't accept RW. That could be the possible issue in this case, what kind of burner are you using? If you post the model I could tell you what kind of disks it accepts.

Does not recognize disk

Either:
* the disk you're inserting is not "empty" -- try it on a different computer;
* you should try a different manufacturer of "blank" disks;
* you need to upgrade the "firmware" inside your CD-writer, to recognize more brands of "blank" media;
* the CD-reader is malfunctioning -- when you "cancel" the burn-attempt, and insert a commercially-produced program CD or commercially-produced audio CD, can those disks be properly read?
* you have two CD/DVD devices in your computer, and you're inserting the "blank" disk into the "wrong" device.

My cd burner is only playing my audio cds and is not recognizing my blank cds.

did you have installed any CD Burning Tool
(like a NERO,aShampo,Alcohol 120%,etc) ?
if you don't have yet,install it into your PC.
but if you have ones,check the option or setting your Burning tools.choose "auto play if CD/DVD blank inserted".

Cd burner

You may want to double-check the "error" message. Normally, when you insert a blank CD-R or CD-R/W you'll see a pop-up message that says something like, "you've inserted a blank CD. What program do you want to use to put something on it?" And then it will give a list of programs like Windows Media Player, Nero Burning ROM, Roxio, MyDVD, etc. The last two choices are "Open a writeable folder" and "Do nothing." The next to last, the open folder, option is the CD recording option for Windows. Once you've put copies of that data into the new window click on the "burn these files to disc" link on the left side or located under the File menu at the top of the window.

Now, if it truly is telling you that you have to insert a blank CD, then you may have one of two problems. Either the CD you're putting in is NOT actually blank or the drive is having problems recognizing the media. To test the first scenario, try the disc on another computer. If it's truly blank, then try uninstalling the CD burner from your Device Manager located in the Windows control panel. Double-click on the System icon > Hardware tab > Device Manager > click on the (+) symbol next to DVD/CD-ROM drives and then highlight your Sony CD burner > right-click and in the menu choose Uninstall. Reboot your system and let Windows redetect the drive and reinstall the drivers (You may want to have any install discs handy, just in case Windows asks for them, but not likely).

I hope that helps!

Transfering my video tapes to DVD

A couple of quick observations: -If you have two or more optical drives you could be inserting the disk in the wrong one. -You may have just misspoke when you said *insert into the DVD/CD burner drive a CD-R disc* but just to make sure you need to be inserting a blank DVD disk and not a blank CD. No offence intended, especially since I?ve made both of these mistakes in the past myself :)

My dvd burner can't find blank dvds

There is a possibility that you may have some bad media. Try another brand of DVD media. I got a hold of a bad spindle of DVD blanks one time and my burner wouldn't recognize them.
