Question about Canon EOS 450D / Digital Rebel XSi Body Only Digital Camera

1 Answer

I have a cannon rebel xsi 450D. I am wondering if there is a way to zoom in closer than I can get by turning the lens and zooming? I would like to get in even closer at times. Hope this makes sense. jodi Hoffmann

There's no "digital zoom" such as "10x" like on point and shoot cameras, only optical. You can only photograph as close as the lens allows.

Are extension tubes any good?

Extension tubes will not affect the zoom range. They simply allow the lens to focus closer by moving the glass farther away from the film or image sensor. I use them for my own close-up work.

The 18-135mm will let you focus down to 0.45m for a maximum magnification of about 1:4.8. True macro is at least 1:1 (lifesize) so this lens can't really be called a macro.

If you mean the 50mm f/2.5 lens, this will let you get to 1:1.

My lense for my Canon XSi seems stuck and I am not able to adjust between zooms. It is current stuck at 24 MM

Remove it and see if everything turns. Clean the contacts on the camera body and the lens where they meet with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

New Camera

Get the Canon EF 70-300mm IS USM about $500 and EFS 17-85mm IS USM about $300. The 75-300 all of them I would not use them 4 a body cap. Camera is fine or step up to XSI.

Simga makes lenses to fit several different makes of camera bodies including Canon and Nikon. I'm assuming your Sigma lens has a Nikon mount, if so there are some adapters, but they may not work like you want - not all functions may work properly thru the adapter. For best results you should return or sell the lens and get one with the Canon mount.
