Question about 3Com 10/100 32-bit CardBus LAN PC Card (90332542) Network Adapter

I am running windows XP. My computer is able to detect my 3com 10/100 lan adapter card. But I can not connect to the internet to set up an account. What should I do?

Hi

First check to see your browsers internet option.Check if you have it set to¨always dials a connection¨. Try setting it to ¨dial whenever a connection is not present and see if that fixes the problem...Also See, if maybe your network card is failing, it could be faulty and you need a new one considering your modem works just fine .

However there is an another solution …that you can use to reset the TCP/IP settings to their original settings. You can also reset the Winsock files too...

However Kindly follow steps to help resolve your issues....

For wireless connections:

1. Hold the Windows key and press the R key, type services.msc and press Enter or click OK. This should open a new window - services local.
2. Look for Wireless Zero Configuration on the list in the right pane. The list is alphabetical, so you should be able to locate it maybe third from the bottom.
3. Double-click it to open it.
4. Click on the STOP button to stop it (lower left). If it is not highlighted or is grayed out, then the service is stopped. (it should also say that the SERVICE STATUS is stopped).
5. Look for STARTUP TYPE drop-down menu. Change it from AUTOMATIC to DISABLED. then click on APPLY (lower right).
6. Then just change it right back from disabled to automatic and click on apply again.
7. Click on START button (right beside the STOP button) on the same window to start the service.


--- We are essentially restarting the windows wireless service. What we did just turned it off and on again ---

8. Close the services local window.
9. Go to Start and then Control Panel. Network Connections. If you don't see Wireless Network Connections or Local Area Connection after opening Network Connections, kindly look for Network Connections again (it maybe on the lower right).
--- We need to be on the page where you have the wireless network connections icon. ---

11. Right-click on the icon for Wireless Network Connections then left-click on Properties.
12. You should have several tabs. Click on Wireless Network Connections tab (near the top of the window).
13. Make sure you have a checkmark on where it says, "Use windows to configure your wireless connections..." or something like that.

--- Before going into the next step. Kindly make sure first that you have the following CORRECT information: (1) your own SSID; (2) Network key (if you have one) - WEP or WPA or whichever encryption you are using. If you don't know these information, kindly secure these information first or better yet, try calling your router manufacturer to help you out on this ---

14. Then on the list that shows on the same window, remove everything on the list. That list shows all the wireless networks that you have been connected to before.

--- Don't worry about deleting it. The next time that you connect to the wireless network, it will be automatically added back into this list ---

15. Once everything is removed. Kindly close the window.
16. Go back to where you have the Wireless Network Connections icon again.
17. Right-click again the icon and left-click on View Wireless Network Connections.
18. If your wireless router is broadcasting your SSID, then you should be able to see it on the list of wireless network(s) that will appear on the screen.
19. Select your SSID and hit Connect.
20. It should be asking for your network key. Type it in. In might ask you to confirm the network key. Just type it in again.
21. It will attempt to connect it. And you will get a notification that you are connected.
22. Once you are connected, go back to the window where you have the Wireless Network Connections icon we were working on before.
23. That icon should say that it is connected.
24. Double-click it. It should open a new window.
25. You should have a General tab and a Support tab.
26. General tab should say it is connected.
27. Click on the Support tab.
28. Now confirm if your IP Address says 192.168.x.x. where x can represent any number. Example: 192.168.0.100
29. If you have these confirmed. Kindly try to see if you can now get into the internet or into your network.

be sure not to plug-in the pci adapter before installing the driver, here try this install first the driver of the said pci adapter then if ask to restart the computer restart it, then turn it off, now install the pci adapter then turn on the computer it will now detect the adapter then follow instruction on the screen, thanks

MAC address need not be changed to connect to internet, unless the cable modem you have is configured in such a way that it only connects to a particular MAC address.

The solution is to change the settings in the cable modem or the router you have.

Please specify the following details
1. if you have windows click on start and click on run(for xp) and type cmd and hit enter
2. type ipconfig and hit enter
3. Find out what is the IP address specified there it should be in the format - 192.x.x.x
4. Note down the address against default gateway

Do the same thing for both the computer and then let us know so that we can narrow down the issue and suggest a better solution

I have installed win xp, its unable to detect LAN connection, no icon dispays for internet, Lan cable light is coming


using another computer with internet access , you must go to the system website and support drivers tab. select your system via info requested and then download the network driver listed in the search. save this to a flash drive , or cd media and then run the application in your computer. this will allow your ethernet to function properly. this is a very typical problem when doing a fresh install with windows xp. if your display adapter settings are not correct. the problem can be solved following the same procedures and selecting the video driver for your download.

When you purchased the network-adapter, did it include a CD-ROM with device-drivers for Windows 98? Did you install those drivers?

Many "new" network-adapters include software that *ONLY* supports newer versions of Windows (XP/Vista/7) and no longer include support for Windows 98/98SE/NT/2000.

Look on eBay for another 3COM adapter, since that adapter worked for you.

NIC Connection question, Manual in XP, Automatic in Linux


Its depend on your LAN Card Configuration, something it obtain or directly detect your internet connection but sometimes its not. That is why to make sure that you can connect you manually put IP Address on it. Uncheck the limited or no connectivity on the Lan Setting to make that when you are using Obtain IP Address then it shows and detect your Router or Hub with internet provider.

first, check your cable. loose cable connection often lead the cause of that error. second. check the lan card of your linux pc. If your pc is a desktop type pc, try to replace the lan card and . Make sure that the lan card is detected by your system. try to connect on the internet again.

If not done allready, setup the lan IP address and default gateway in win98 Click MyComputer-ControlPanel-Network-Double Click TCP/IP Adapter for your 3com device-insert LAN info for IP Adress-subnet mask, Gateway and your Internet service providors DNS Addresses info Tab's (3x different Tabs "IP Adress" "Gateway" "DNS Configuration") IP Adress will be at least one number higher than your gateway address and not allready being used by other PC's on your network and gateway address will same as your router interface address subnet mask will be the same for all PC's on your network. For 3com and Netgear routers LAN setup is usually Gateway = 192.168.1.1 Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0 IP Adress = 192.168.1.10(choose alternate number than 10 if allready used by another PC on your network, try to use round numbers, must be a number higher than 1) Once all info is entered click OK (this may trigger a database info update message and task)now your LAN is setup and ready to talk to your network Restart PC and try browsing again. May possibly require reinstallation of the TCP/IP client (you double clicked this to setup your LAN in Win98) or reinstallation of the IIS(Internet Information Services)component found in, Add/Remove Programs-Add/Remove windows components and then try LAN setup again if this does not work first time round
