If it won't boot up it could be a virus or MBR is corrupt.

download and open zipped file, create bootable cd by burning .iso on to cd. boot from cd select antivirus and check system in dos shell.

If the MBR is corrupt you could try maxblast / powermax by maxtor.

How do I get into safemode on my acer aspire desktop

1 Restart the Acer Aspire netbook by pressing the "power" button on the netbook's keyboard or by pressing the "CTRL," "ALT" and "DEL" keys at the same time. 2 During startup, hold down the "F8" function key immediately when you see the "Acer" splash screen and the option for entering "Setup." 3 Keep pressing the "F8" key until the "Advanced Boot Options" menu appears. If you receive a "keyboard error," restart the Acer Aspire and repeat step 2. 4 Use the arrow keys to navigate to the "Safe Mode" selection on the "Advanced Boot Options" menu. The arrow keys are located on the right-hand side of the Acer Aspire keyboard. 5 Press the "Enter" key to execute the "Safe Mode" selection. The Windows operating system will now start in "Safe Mode" and you can perform a system restore or make needed changes to get your Acer Aspire to boot normally again. My Acer Aspire M1201 Desktop will not boot. I turn the power on but all I get is the Acer logo followed by "No Signal" and the monitor goes blank. I keep hoping I will finally hear the beep noise...

Hi,

If you are seeing the Acer logo on boot up then the machine is working. The problem will be your graphics drivers being corrupt.
Try starting the machine in Safe Mode. To do this repeatedly tap the F8 key as it's just starting up. It should take you to an advanced menu with Safe Mode at the top, select that with the cursor keys.

If it allows you to boot in safe mode then wait until Windows loads and then right click on My Computer/Computer, select manage from the sub menu and then Device Manager.

Click on Display Adapters and uninstall the drivers. When its done unistalling the drivers restart the machine in normal mode. It should boot into Windows. If it lets you boot into Windows I suggest that you download and install the latest drivers from Acer's support website.

If you need anymore help please post back.

Good luck and regards.

I cant get my computer to fully boot up

This might happen if you install McAfee with applications running, or not restarting Windows, etc. I am not sure why you couldn't boot in Safemode, booting in safemode is exactly what you need to do to uninstall McAfee.

The computer will not boot into normal mode without shutting off the power. If I go into safe mode and disable the video drivers then it will boot into normal mode and run for as long as I want.

Try start up in Safe Mode press F8. Choose Safe Mode, when at the choice window, to select either Safe Mode Desktop, OR System Restore, chooses system restore and choose a time before you had the "Problem" and follow instructions. This should get you back.

Windows xp will not load on my computer....

It could be your hard drive problem. Which I called it, "Crash." I would suggest you try to format the hard drive and reload the operation system with your installation CD.

Booting problem

You may have to boot from a CD and make a repair.
Once logged in the CD, choose repair option (Recovery Console), and type these three commands:
1) fixmbr (wait til it finishes)
2) fixboot (wait...)
3) CHKDSK (this will take longer than the previous two.
Your laptop may now boot normally. I think your laptop doesn't have an internal CD-ROM so you may use an external USB CD.

PC freezes on boot-up

Try booting the thing in Safe Mode. Upon startup (after the Acer logo goes) press F8 several times. You will be offered a menu select Safe Mode (at the very top of the list). If the system reaches the desktop, you can repair your Windows. For the three fixes below you will need to go Start Menu>Run...
1) Write: fixmbr, and press ENTER.
2) Write: fixboot, and press ENTER.
3) Write: chkdsk, and press ENTER.
(The later will take several minutes, but you can read what stage it is doing).

My computer wont boot up. I try to send it to safe mode but all I get is start-up repair and then it tells me it can't fix the problem. Any Ideas?

you need to repair you OS. You can do it by booting up with your Windows CD.

then "set up windows xp"

press F8

then at the drive selection " where your windows xp is installed" Press "R"

don't worry it won't reformat your drive, its going to repair the damage it has.

Cannot get out of running windows normally

You didn't loose you work, windows only got corrupted as what often happens. Start up into safe mode, then run "scan disk" and select fix errors automatically, it might take a while to run. Maybe with a little luck it might find some errors and fix it.
Worst case situation - put the hard drive in another computer that boots in order to back up work, then put it back in your machine and buy a copy of windows xp. Then install drivers from Acer's website. (might have to use a jump drive with another machine to install first network drivers on your machine)
Hope this helps maybe a bit......
