Question about Sony STR-DH800 7.1-Channel Audio Video Receiver 7.1 Channels

Open Question

I have a Sony STR-DH800 reciever. It's worked fine for about 2 months. However, now it doesn't have any audio and just creates loud hissing and popping sounds. I've tried different speakers and the problem occurs on all inputs. Any ideas what could cause this or what the solution would be?

SOURCE: No output on main speakers

I have experienced a similar problem with my Sony STR-GX57ES and took it to a certified tech only to find it needed the power supply replaced. I opted to hunt down a compatible power supply but have been unsucessful thus far. That being said I picked up an STR-D665 for next to nothing and found the power supplies to be quite different (you would hope so any, with the ES meaning Elivated Standard and all) but with the D665 working flawlessly I'd rather have something working than nothing. Good luck!

SOURCE: Speakers pop and rear speakers cut out of surround sound

Hi,
your problem is a bad solder connection of the relay linked to the lautspeaker sockets. I had the same problem and googled for the solution. Since I resoldered the pins everything is fine. That problem is well known and happens to a lot of Sony receivers.

I can send you a link with a detailed how-to-do solution with pictures, however it's written in german language. But you can use some online translators.

SOURCE: Subwoofer hum from STR-DH800

That points pretty much to a bad shield on the cable. Have you tried another one? Another thing to try is to rotate the AC power cord on the sub (if it has one). Sorry, too lazy to look it up.

My str-dh800 develops an internal hum after being tuned on for a couple of hours

The main power supply filter capacitor is the problem, as the temperature rises the capacitance drops while in use and eventually the audio gets a distinctive 60 cylce audio hum. The part must be replaced in order to correct the issue.

You may need to enter the setup menu on the PS3 and enable the decoding for blu-ray discs.
