Hello and welcome to FixYa,

This is because you dont have MS Office installed on your computer or if you do have MS Office the files are not associated with opening with Office.

PPS stands for PowerPoint SlideShow or can be found as PPT (PowerPoint Template) or PPTX for early versions of Office 2007 and 2010.

Please install either Microsoft Office (needs to be bought) on your computer or (if you only need to view this file) install PowerPoint Viewer 2007 or 2010 (free to download HERE).

If this is a problem directly related to Hotmail inbox or the specific email please check your email settings in hotmail or gmail account for filetypes.

Also do regular powerpoint or ms office files open if you download them from the attachments in the email?

Regards from FixYa.

**Please rate how helpful this was**

Thanks.

Mp3 music on PPS when emailed does not work.

Yeah, because you linked it and don't have it set to export linked resources. If you ship the MP3 with the ppt and all directories are right, you're golden (or export with linked resources embedded and there you go.)

eMail readers are responsible for how the components are parted out; I can't see why it would stage all the components for playing in a particular way, it's kind of an insecure way to run.

  • Open up Windows Explorer. (The Windows Key + E, on many keyboards.)
  • Find any file with the PPS extension. For example somefile.pps.
  • Right-click on the filename, and select Open With ....
  • Even if the PowerPoint or PowerPoint Viewer is already listed don't click on it. Instead, select Choose Program at the bottom of the list that's displayed.
  • In the resulting dialog box you should find PowerPoint, or PowerPoint Viewer, and click on that.
  • Click the box labeled "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file".
  • Press OK
