Freezer ices up

Sounds like you have a defrost problem. The parts for your defrost cycle are.
1. Bimetal part# 4387503
2. Heater part# 2315531
3. Defrost timer Part# 482493

The heater and the bimetal is located in the freezer dept. behind the back wall. The defrost timer is located behind the cold control plate in the refrigerator department.

Frost buildup in the freezer?

If you have frost buildup in the freezer then the most likely cause would be an issue with your defrost system. Theres is a few possible causes the most common would be a bad defrost heater.

1)You can unplug the unit and remove the back panel of the freezer.
2)remove 2 screws holding in the defrost heater (located at the bottom of evap coils)
3) remove 2 wires on heater and ohm heater with meter if shows no continuity then heater is bad
4)according to GE you need to replace defrost heater and thermistor located on top of evap coils.
5)def heater number is wr51x10055 and thermistor is wr55x10025.
6) if heater is good check to see if termination (also on top of evaporator seems to be popped out or bowed)
7) if none of these are the case it would be an issue with your main control board and you may want to call a qualified tech

Stop cooling. I turn it off for a couple of minutes and then it start over again. Also it keep cooling in the freezer area and was warm at the refrigerator. I turn it off for a whole day an it start...

It sounds to me like your frig is not going through the automatic defrost cycle. Locate the defrost timer,( a white or black square box with 4 wires comming from it) usually located at the back of the frig, but not always. You have to insert a small screwdriver to rotate. Turn it one click, remove everything from the freezer and remove the rear panel from the freezer section. Observe to see if the defrost heater comes on. If the heater comes on replace the defrost timer. If the heater does not come on you have to check the defrost thermostat located on top of the evaporator (silver grill) .The defrost thermostat is a round disc with two wires comming from it.Check this while the freezer is still cold. Check with an ohms meter and it should show a closed curcuit. If this is working ok check the resistance of the heater. If there is no resistance on the heater, replace the heater. When you replace the heater it's wise to change the defrost thermostat at the same time.
I hope this helps.

Freezer is working refrigerator is not.

The freezer is not defrosting. Look at the back wall of the freezer section and see if it is frosted. Locate the defrost timer and advance it till it clicks once. This should advance the freezer to the defrost cycle. Check to see if the defrost heater is on. If the defrost heater is glowing behind the freezer rear panel the you know you have to replace the defrost timer. If the heater is not glowing then you have to check if the defrost heater or defrost timer is in default.

you need to check your heater first unplug ref remove back panel in freezer section remove the wires from the heater and with an ohm meter check to see if you have continuity through heater if not you need to replace heater if so you need to check the defrost terminator located on the evaporator if this checks ok then you have a problem with the thermistor located at the bottom of the freezer just under the back panel

Amana side by freezer fan frozen will not run

Fan not operating could be caused by the excess frost buildup in the freezer coil. Defrost problems are related to a failure of the timer, heater, or defrost thermostat. Locate the timer and rotate the clutch head screw clockwise until you hear one audible click. That puts the system into defrost mode. If the system restarts after 18-22 minutes your problem is in the heater circuit. Heater and defrost thermostat is located behind the back wall of the freezer section.

Frosty

IS THE BACK OF THE FREEZER CLEAR ICE OR WHITE FROST?
IF IT IS WHITE FROST, THERE IS A FAILURE OF THE DEFROST CYCLE. THREE COMPONENTS NEED TO BE CHECKED. THERE IS A DEFROST TIMER, HEATER AND BI-METAL. THE HEATER AND BI-METAL ARE LOCATED BEHIND THE BACK WALL OF THE FREEZER WHERE THE FROST IS BUILDING UP. IF IT IS A WHIRLPOOL, THE TIMER IS LOCATED IN THE FRESH FOOD COMPARTMENT WITH THE COLD CONTROL. LOOK FOR A HOLE THE SIZE OF A DIME IN THE CONTROL HOUSING. THERE IS A SMALL DIAL IN THERE THAT CAN BE ADVANCED WITH A SCREWDRIVER.
ADVANCE IT UNTIL YOU HEAR A STRONG CLICK AND THE
REFRIGERATOR SHUTS OFF. THAT WILL BE IN THE DEFROST CYCLE. WAIT ABOUT TEN MINUTES AND LISTEN FOR SIZZLING IN THE FREEZER COMPARTMENT. ALSO LOOK FOR A RED/ORANGE GLOW IN THE FREEZER. IF THAT HAPPENS, THE HEATER AND BI-METAL ARE O.K.
REPLACE THE TIMER. IF NOT, TAKE THE BACK PANEL OFF THE FREEZER AND CHECK THE HEATER AND BI-METAL WITH A VOLT-OHM METER. REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART.
ON G.E. REFRIGERATORS, SOME HAVE THE TIMER LOCATED BEHIND THE TOE PLATE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE REFRIGERATOR. ON OTHER REFRIGERATORS, IT IS LOCATED INSIDE THE COMPRESSOR COMPARTMENT TUCKED BACK IN A CORNER.
