How-to set-up a home aquarium

as with any aquarium its all in the method !!

first think about the placement of the tank ? can I get to everything easily ? is there a power source close by ? whats already on that outlet? is there anything that water would damage by it getting on nearby ? and last but most important will the floor support its weight (this is the #1 thing that's forgotten most ) 8.33x40= 333 lbs !! and that's just the water !! the tank adds another 40 pounds and then think of the gravel , me id count on having about 500 pounds there for that size tank . remember the floor will need to remain steady with that weight on it (not springy) , its not uncommon to reinforce floor joists underneath a tank with steel beams !!!

if this is your first large tank id go slow and add only a few fish to start off , you'll be playing catch up with your water chem to get a "happy" point at first and it be a terrible shame to loose a ton of fish due to that !!

Can you fix the top rim of a 72 g bow front if the middle piece is broken?

if its only the top black plastic piece sure you can , id use superglue and let dry (hours not minutes) and wash it several times with water to clean residue off , (NO fish in tank or water ) if crack is to the top of actual tank < its possible with aquarium silicone but I wouldn't chance it id replace it

Why do I need a filtration system for my aquarium?

Aquarium filters are a necessary part of operating an aquarium. The fish are confined to a much smaller quantity of water in comparison to their natural habitat. Unlike in open waters, fish waste in the aquarium can quickly build up and increase toxic levels. Fish waste will in turn release ammonia which will kill your fish.

How do I know how many fish I can fit in my aquarium?

There are some limiting factors like the oxygen availability and the filtration processing. I gave you some examples below they all refer for small or large freshwater fish.

3 cm of adult fish length per 4 liters of water.1 cm of adult fish length per 30 square centimeters of surface area. 1 inch of adult fish length per US gallon of water. 1 inch of adult fish length per 12 square inches of surface area.

How much light do I need in my aquarium?

If you own a regular fish tank without any plants you only need enough light to be able to see your fish clearly and conveniently. To get that result you'll need about 0.75 watt per gallon.

How many fish can I put in my 25 gallon aquarium?

A good guideline to follow is for every one gallon of water you can keep one inch of fish. Take into consideration that after rocks, plants and decor the amount of space is less. Lastly, you should keep in mind how large the fish will grow. It is very important that you do not overcrowd your tank.

My 72 gallon has started pulling apart at the brace. Where can a replacement be found

Try a local pet store, but from my experience once this starts the best solution is to just get a new tank
