Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS TO COMPUTER
If your photos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

Hi,

I highly recommend that you instead consider using a card reader to move the photos or videos to your computer. Card reader's do not require software (although Windows 98 and earlier may require drivers), are very inexpensive, are much faster downloading files from the camera, do not use the camera's batteries during the download, and are much less prone to file corruption of the photos during the download.
Really, it would be better for the camera user if one of these was included with the camera instead of the cable and bundled software.
You place the camera's card in the reader, plug the reader into the USB port, and your computer sees it as a hard drive. You simply copy/paste or drag/drop your photos onto your hard drive. For this simplicity, most professional photographers utilize card readers exclusively. You'll save yourself a lot of heartache if you convert to using one of these. Also make sure that you get a reader that is clearly stated capable of reading your card, particularly if you use SDHC, XD, CF, or MS cards.

It's very hard to troubleshoot software problems online, and it likely is a software issue. But as a solution I highly recommend that you instead consider a card reader to download your photos to your computer. They're very inexpensive, much faster downloading photos from the camera, do not use the camera's batteries during download, and are much less prone to file corruption of the photos during the download.

You place the camera's card in the reader, and your computer sees it as a hard drive. You simply copy/paste or drag/drop your photos onto your hard drive. For all of these reasons, most professional photographers utilize card readers exclusively. Really, you'll save yourself a lot of heartache. Here are some examples from Amazon. Also, don't be fooled by the cost. some of the cheap ones work just fine. Go by the reviews:

And for international readers, here's another source for card readers (free international shipping too :-)

Downloading photos

Digital cameras have often an USB cable, which you connect between your camera and USB interface at your computer. Turn on the camera and your computer recognize the camera and install it as a drive. You can then transfer your photos from camera to the computer.

Cannot download pictures from camera to PC

you might need to go to the manufacturers web site and download the drivers for your camera. or if your camera came with a CD isert that into the computer and install it before connecting your camera again. if that doesnt work you will need to buy a fifteen in one card reader for your memory card. that will plug right into the comuter and you will take the memory card out of your camera and put it in the card reader. then you should be prompted that something has been inserted into you computer.
