Install trim and adjust the thermostat on a Grohe shower faucet

Before you install the temperature control knob, adjust the valve body (47111) with a wrench to set the temperature to "100 degree or close to it". Now, place the limit ring to tdc (top dead center) and control knob with the red 100-degree align to it. Your problem may have been the valve's temperature setting is out range when you installing the temperature control knob.

We have a water softner AO Smith and we did the release valve on it and now it wont stop dripping.

Do you mean a water heater? Not sure why a RELIEF valve would be on a water softener.

Many times if a relief valve is not tested regularly it can gat minerals and deposits in it that can prevent it from sealing back up when tripped.

Sometimes tripping it quickly with the lever can make it work again. It is a realativly easy and inexpensive part to change.

Turn off water and relieve pressure on tank. Have the new one doped up and ready. Remove the old one and put the new one right in. Test the new one and you're done.

This valve should be tested monthly and a gallon or so of water drawn from the bottom of the heater as minerals and sedimet build up in the bottom. The water heater will last longer and be more effecient if seviced reguarly.

Flow of water thru shower head is barely a trickle

There is a chance there is mineral deposits in the showerhead openings. You can try products sucha as limeaway by unscrewing the showerhead , soaking in the limeaway for a few minutes and rinsing with water. You may have to repeat this a few times to get it clean.

Remove the build up in a hot water tank

All you can do is to flush the water tank with the power off until you get clear water. The buildup is caused by hard water mineral deposits. You definitely need a water softener to prevent further accumulation. I found mine at sears on sale a few years ago, they were fairly reasonable and the installation wasn't that bad to do.

The water is not clear any more we have white residue in the kettle. We did change the filter and emptied the tank 3 times before insulting the new filters.

I don't believe that any filtration system is capable of removing dissolved calcium from water and that is what causes the white deposits. Water softeners will, but I don't like the idea of dissolved salts in our tap water.
