Question about Dishwashers

2 Answers

Dishwasher - The dishes and glasses do not come out clean. There is approx 2 inches of soapy/dirty water that remains at the bottom of the dishwasher. I was told by the sales people that this was normal in order to keep the ... moist. I have since leared that this is not normal. The washer was purchased approx 1 1/2 years ago and was installed last January. Problem has always existed. I have replaced the Drain Pump because when I spoke to someone at GE that was thought to be the problem. NOT SO!!!! HELP!

I hit the heatede dry 6 times and then hit the start/.cancel. only the nortmal wash, heated dry and he hot wash lights went on.

My dishwasher is quiet power 2 model GLD5860L15SS.

I have followed these instructions. After hitting these keys the only lights that go on are from the previous setting. The machine then goes into that cycle (wash - rinse etc). The problem is that the indicator or timer to allow for the water to drain is not functioning is leaving 2 inches of soapy/dirty water in the bottom of the dishwasher. I see that during the rinse cycle, and probably the wash cycle, water is added to the maching and some drains out. I can see it. What sensor/indicator/timer determines that the tub is empty or needs to be emptied and stays on long enough to allow the water to pump out? Remember, the pump was replaced.

The Comment "I hit the heatede dry 6 times and then hit the start/.cancel. only the nortmal wash, heated dry and he hot wash lights went on." was responding to what lights went on when I pressed the heated dry and the start cancel button.

Sometimes it is easy to just change the obvious parts rather than diagnose the real problem. here is a easy way to diagnose a drain problem on a maytag dishwasher with front push buttons ( non digital display)instead of replacing parts unnecessarily after checking if drain line is clear. Hear are the steps to diagnose a pump or sensor problem

    1. First you will want to perform a field service test, This is done by pressing the heated dry key 6 times and then pressing the start cancel button all within 8 seconds. You will see all lights illuminate except for the heavy wash light, this will blink during the software test. The delay led and high temp wash led will blink if the sensor is at fault

    2. If all software system components check out you will have to do a manual function test. This will diagnose a component malfunction ie drain motor.

    3. A manual function test is performed by pressing heated dry key 5 times followed by the start key all within 8 seconds. The normal wash led will now flash indicating that the manual test is now active.

    4. If this test does not indicate any problem, you will proceed to the component itsef. Usually if the drain motor is at fault the light wash led will flashby the third press of the heated dry button

    5. To test the drain motor, First turn off the power and proceed to access the wiring between the front panel and the inside door cover. Remove the screws that hold the two together. you will set the ohm meter at 20 and test the pins labeled drain and (st 6 ) and dbl line (st 4 ) the meter should read 25 ohms if not the drain motor is at fault

Following is a basic test procedure which you can follow.

    1. First you will need to perform a field service test. This is done by pressing the heated dry key 6 times and then pressing the start cancel button all within 8 seconds. You will see all lights illuminate except for the heavy wash light, this will blink during the software test. The delay led and high temp wash LED will blink if the sensor is faulty.

    2. If all software system components checks out you will have to do a manual function test. This will diagnose a component malfunction, that is, drain motor.

    3. A manual function test is performed by pressing heated dry key 5 times followed by the start key all within 8 seconds. The normal wash LED will now flash indicating that the manual test is now active.

    4. If this test does not indicate any problem, you will proceed to the component itsef. Usually if the drain motor is at fault the light wash LED will flash by the third press of the heated dry button.

Also did u mean to clean the Screen due to water droplets in it..?

Not rinsing glasses clean

If the glasses are spotty from hard water try a rinse aid like Jet Dry. If they are actually dirty, depending on the brand of DW you may need to rinse them better before putting them in the DW. Not all brands are cerated equally, some do work better then others

Doesn't drain; glasses have film; rinses with used, soapy water

The white film problem is hard water. There is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system. It filters the water before it enters your dishwasher. It works amazing and has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look after the first load. It is also very affordable (like 70 bucks). Go to www.dishwasherfilter.com to find out more info.

GE Profile PDW7300, Leaves 2 - 3 inches of dirty water in bottom

check for a clogged discharge hose where it connects to the plumbing under the sink...this is the most common area for a clog. if no restriction is found, the discharge valve will need to be tested

Dishwasher leaves soap in dispenser.

Hi Dirty Dish gang.
After having 2 appliance repairmen here, I now have the latest scoop on our dishwasher problems, $200 later!
Los Angeles IS currently having hard water issues. Also, all the new cleaning gels etc. are actually a cause of our dishwasher problems.
So, here is what we need to do:
1. Use Cascade POWDER detergent only.  Make sure is is just "plain" no "scented" or "complete"  or gel, etc. (I have tried a phosphate free powder and gel and this is a cause of our problem as well!) 2. Use Jet Dry in the dispenser (set it to a 2-3 opening) 3. Make sure water is at least 120 degrees 4. Only run dishwasher on "normal" setting.  All others just run it longer, hence causing more water stains. 5. Do not pre-wash dishes! You can knock of chunks with a "non" soapy brush, but don't rinse (the oils actually help to clean the dishes) 6.  Do not wash sponges in dishwasher.
Acid Wash: The repairman just gave my washer an Acid Wash today. It says it is an acid derived from lemon, I got mine from Carters appliance in Torrance, CA for about $19. I am to run a normal cycle with the above mentioned Cascade after this "acid cycle" is finished.
If you are still having problems:
Monthly maintenance: Glass Magic: Buy a box of Glass Magic (near the Cascade)  Use 1 Tbsb in main detergent compartment of dishwasher along with the Cascade, till washer starts working again. White Vinegar: You can run an empty dishwasher with white vinegar once a month.  Fill a bowl with 2 cups vinegar and place on bottom rack.  Then run as a normal cycle...this allows vinegar to disperse slowly.
So far it seems to be working.  Good luck.

Water seems to be hot enough, drains properly, arnms not blocked, dishes not being cleaned at end of cycle. Almost seems like it is skipping the wash cycle.

Hi smiller8565,
There is 3 basic problems that will cause a dishwasher to not clean the dishes. You can check these problems and see if any will solve your problems.
1: If there is water or suds left in the dishwasher after the cycle is complete. This will cause dirty water to be used in the final rinse and the dishes will not get clean.
2: The pump that supplies water to the spray arms is jammed or defective and unable to pump the water properly, thus causing the dishes to remain dirty.
3: Timer, the timer is not allowing the machine to work in the wash cycle.
The solutions for these 3 are as follows.
1: check the drain line for blockage, if you have a disposal make sure it is clear and water flows down the drain properly. If you have suds left in the dishwasher, clean them out and run a couple cycles with not detergent to rinse away the old suds.
2: Look down in the bottom for any obstructions in the pump. Popcorn seeds, broken glass, etc.
3: If the unit is skipping the wash cycle you will most likely need a new timer or control assembly.
Good luck and I really hope this will Fix Ya
Mike

Dihes not clean

Run the unit with no soap, after about 5 min. of run time open door and check to see if water is clear or soapy,If soapy then you are having an oversudsng issue. When your washer gets to rinse cycle, your unit (if oversuding),will be rinsing with soapy water and the the drying cycle bakes the soap on dishes. You might be having a white film on your clear glasses.Cut down on soap especially if you have soft water.powder soap is best.Your dishwasher will fill , wash , the drain. Its what you put into it that will cause dishes not become clean.
