Question about Broan-NuTone N-RF69NR Attic Fan Attic Fan

Open Question

My attic fan does not work! It was hot in the attic and I noticed a bird had caught its neck in the fan had died and dried up in it. I removed it and pushed the blades by one finger, the fan was rotating smoothly but it is not working. It is connected to a thermostat in the attic. Do these things have a fuse or reset button anywhere?

SOURCE: attic fans

I just fixed a Broan-353 with a similar problem - the fan was short-cycling, turning on and off within a minute or less.

These fans have a thermostat which is designed to turn off 10 degrees below where it's set to turn on. Apparently, one failure mode is this temperature delta stops working I've had this happen twice, each time after about 3 years.

Replacement thermostats are available from Broan for about $30 http://parts.broan-nutone.com/broan/Shop It's a 10 minute repair if you have easy access to the fan.

I have a Cannon Powershot A510 when I turn it on only a picture of a bird comes up and then screen goes off I cant get to a blank scream to take a picture or lens don't open

Have you removed the battery an waited about 30 or more to reset camera? Sometimes this works. If there is a backup battery in camera remove it also. Generally this means a service for this camera is needed. If you want to send it to Canon, they may charge a lot. IF you can find a local shop that would even look at it make sure you get a price for looking at it. Sometimes it as simple as cleaning off the electronics, or putting the pinion on the drive again for the lens. but most of the time the elecrtronics have failed. Dont ever leave a camera in storage, hot car, attic, boxed up again wth batteries in it. Cameras dont take heat or dust well. Good luck

Refrigerator get's hot when plugeed in

It is normal for some heat to be generated in this area. However there is something you need to check if you feel the heat is excessive.

In the lower rear of your unit is the compressor and a fan. You need to look the see if this fan is operating. Its quite common for this fan to get jammed during a move because the insulation gets caught in the blades of the fan. It is very important this fan is operating as it cools the freon and oil which in turn cools the compressor. The heat you are feeling is part of the warm side of the circulating system that was installed there to help keep that area dry and your door gaskets free of mold.

Thanks for asking.

Fan has a humming noise and locking up

a.if there were a dead bird inside, you'd know it from the smell! if the outside vent has the proper hood on it, it's doubtful a bird could get into it. possibly a roof-rat, but still- the smell!
b. have you 'de-greased' the filter lately? clogged filter can cause airflow problems, as well as allowing fan blades to become greased up and unbalanced, which could cause a noisy condition. if you can- remove the filter unit and check the fan blades for crud. use a gentle application of windex, rubbing alcohol, or some other gentle solvent to clean the blades. the leading edges usually pick up the most crud. you should be able to see this! carefully, using q-tips, or a small brush, clean off the crud! the fan's probably out of balance. WD40 works pretty well, too. also lubricates the shaft bushing that the blades are attached to. make sure the fan is turned off! duh!! good luck! also- soak the filter in hot water and a good de-greaser for a while, 'til you can see light through it. it's probably aluminum mesh- so use very hot water and a goodly amount of 'grease cutting' dish detergent. rinse well.
once again- good luck! the filter is probably held in place by clips. once removed, you will probably need a flashlight to work on the fan blades. put paper towels, or newspaper down to catch drips!

My air conditioning units work. They are cooling. The thermostats say 76 degrees. The problem is the hot dry smelly attic-like air that is constantly circulating and blasting down on me from the air vents....

the techs probably checked the units operation, but did they get in the attic to see that the duct work on the return air side of the unit is tight and not sucking in the attic air.

Attic fan motor replacement

It sounds like you are replacing a two speed motor with a single speed. Check the side of the old motor and see if it has high and low speed wiring schematics. If so you need to replace with same model number. Good luck!

Replace old attic fan motor, or replace the entire fan assembly.

I am assuming you replaced your fan by now. However in the future call Gibraltar Industries, they are the ones who manufacture all fans and motors. My attic motor fan also died and I first called Ventamatic and they wanted $65 for a new motor. I then called Gibraltar and they shipped one our for free. 800-527-1924.

Mouse in vent fan?

Yes, the mouse was probably attracted to the warmth and food odors in the duct work and may have gotten trapped in the vanes of the fan and died. I'd act fast...

The best bet is to remove the oven from the wall, or almost from the wall, so you can see the area of the hood vent exhaust fan.

This is safer with two people and the installation instructions will be of great help.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.
