Hotpoint WMA57 Spins then pumps clean water into drum thro soap drawer in short bursts!
I have a Hotpoint WMA57 - bought quite a few years ago and no longer manufactured I think. It has a 1400 spin and has worked well until recently, but now an intermittent fault seems to be developing into a permanent problem.
After going through a full washing cycle and spin successfully, the machine does not release the door lock, but instead starts pumping new water into the drum in short bursts. This eventually stops so that there is maybe an inch and a half sitting in the bottom of the drum until a new cycle is started. If we get to the machine after the fast section of the spin cycle it is possible to switch the machine off and remove the washing as normal, but this is a bit tiresome and can leave washing sitting soaking if we are out.
Repair men have so far cleared us out of a total of £100 (I feel really stupid now!) to clear blockages from the pump and then replace the pump, but there has been no change. A new programmer at £100-120 would mean that we would be better off buying a new machine. Is there anything I can do to fix it? It seems a terrible waste to abandon something so close to working!

Have you checked and cleaned the filter?
To check the filter, remove the lower rear panel of washer, locate and remove the large black hose connected to the bottom of the drum.
Remove and clean the plastic filter inside the hose.
Reassemble and test for leaks.
you will filter is blocked if you pull the machine out and the the waste pipe drop into a bowl or a bucket the water should run out the filter is underneath the tub black hose going to pump held on by screw clip remove back panel to see this UNPLUG MACHINE FIRST. undue screw clip pull down black pipe gentle there is a ball in there then a plastic filter clean and replace.
Depending on which compartment the powder is remaining in, it could be low water pressure causing the problem.
If it is taking some down, but not all the powder, then try putting the powder towards the front of the compartment.
If all else fails then I suggest you get one of these dispenser balls that you put straight in the drum with the washing.
Plz rate this solution.
I would check the inlet hose from the bottom of the soap dispenser where it goes into the drum for a soap blockage.
undesolved powder can build up here and prevent the water entering the drum
You can access this hose by removing top cover.
the hose is on the left side front.
This should solve your problem.

You said, During final spin/rinse a vibrating/buzzing noise begins behind the
from panel and which appears to be coming from just to the right of the
soap drawer. After a few seconds, either the trip throws on the
household consumer unit, or on one occasion, the fuse in the mains plug
blew as well. Have noticed (don't know if connected) that soap drawer is
often found containing water after machine is finished.
1.The soap dish needs to be cleaned out, holes clogged. The instructions for this process is in the user guide and I'll paste the site below for you in case you do not have it available to you. 2.The noise sounds like a short or electrical problem starting. For this you will need a hands on diagnoses. TRY doing the soap drawer first to be sure that it is not the culprit! The book can be found here and the drawer info on page 12:
first remove the soap drawer, this should expose locating holes for screws, remove these first, then remove the screws from on top of the plastic front panel and then the plastic front panel tilts forward to remove, taking extra care with wires etc
the soap drawer is now loose still attached to the rubber pipe, which is now easy to get to for inspection, or removal to clear it out.
first of all just check that the machine drum is not filling up totally so it is overflowing back out of the soap drawer, if so that is a different fault entirely and does not need taking to bits the same
firstly you will need to take out the soap drawer and thoroughly clean it and the spray holes that are above the soap drawer. secondly i would reduce the cold water pressure to a fast trickle/jet that way it will not be spraying all over the place.
the filter sounds as though it will need cleaning out. unplug machine, from the rear is a metal plate, remove it to gain access to the bottom hose-this incorperates the filter. undo secure jubilee clip and lower hose. remove debris and check the hose and pump for further obstructions. you should be ok after that. try to beat out the dog blankets outside b4 washing to remove as many hairs as poss. tone.
