It won't. You need to have a program like iMovie or Final Cut that you can transfer your video form your tape to your hard drive and then you can manipulate or edit the video. Only cameras that record on an internal hard drive will show up as a HD icon. Then all you have to do is drag the material you want from the camera's hard drive to the computer.
Hope that helps.

I have an older canon mini tape camcorder and my mac pro wont recognize it for uploading

You could try the cannon website to see if there are any driver updates for your model. Cannon may have a users forum, which you might be able to pin point the problem there, If that doesn't work try the mac website for updates etc.

Canon FS200 camcorder: can I download to a mac? If not, what wou

yes, it does.
It only works with iLife 08 or 09, not older version.
It's easier to connect with a card reader to your Mac, Open iMovie to import. If via Camcorder, make sure Camcorder is set to display->Print/PC.

Can't download video to macintosh from the canon zr100

Unfortunately, it looks as if you may have one of the macs that just doesn't want to co-operate. If the FW cable is brand new, i highly doubt you've got a defective cable. After doing a Google search, Canon knows of this problem and hasn't offered any real support or a solution. I could only assume it's the camcorder and not the mac. Give me another day or so and I'll get back to ya, I'll see if I can borrow my friends camcorder and try to get it to work on one of my other macs.
In the meantime, try opening imovie , connect the camcorder while it's off, turn it on and set up imovie as if you were about to capture ntsc footage. Next play the tape in the camcorder and see if imovie recognizes it then.

JVC GZ-MG360Bu won't playback or download data to my Mac Book

Have you installed the jvc drive software from the disc ok, it finds mine and downloads it all into folders. As soon as you plug in the device the software should auto open.
