Your carburator is gummed up. get some fuel additive called seafoam. Add it to your fuel and run your mower for a few minutes. this should clear your problem. if it doesnt you will need to rebuild the carburator. J.

Mower runs awhile and just quits like the gas is turned off. Changed gas line, filter, drained gas tank and changed air filter. Help

Next time it quits check for spark at the spark plug. You may have a failing ignition coil electronics which manufacture into the coil pack.

How do i repair an engine shut down problem ?

That could be a possibility..try this run it until it shuts off as usual and then disconect the spark plug wire..and hold the wire with rubber handled pliers and touch the plug end to the engine block then have someone try to start the mower..if the coil is breaking down from heat there will be no spark and the coil will need replaced..if it has a spark then most likely is a fuel problem a couple things to,check..sometimes heat can vapor lock the gas line.make sure the line isn't too close to the heat source if it is move it or insulate it...another could be your fuel pump wearing out if it has one..when it stops disconnect the fuel line and try starting only briefly enough to see if the pump is pumping...good luck

Starts but wont run and shuts down in seconds

Read entire posting before doing anything else first.
I discovered what the problem was, after changing spark plugs, fuel filter and air filter (At this point the mower would not start at all):
1. Checking for spark. I got spark out of both plug wires. The modules were OK.
2. Checking for fuel flow. Only small amount of fuel coming out of fuel pump. I changed the fuel pump. (I bought a Briggs and Stratton for $22.50 instead of a Kohler for $60.00. Same fuel filter!)
It ran fine for 10 min. then quit again!
I loosened the gas cap and it has ran fine since then, by keeping the gas cap loose. I will replace the gas cap.
Note: It was difficult to find the problem, since I replaced the filter and removed the vapor lock, so it ran for awhile. I then checked the fuel pump and removed the vapor lock, so it ran for awhile. I would suggest that people with similar problems, loosen the gas cap to see if that works first!

Riding mower having problems starting then runs roughly

I would bet you have a fuel problem. Either the carb is clogged and dirty or needs adjustment. Try opening the screw on the bottom of the carbuerator about a half turn see if that improves it. Also check the air filter and clean it.
