Ge customer service should be able to tell you waht model is a "drop-in replacement" for your model.

Just be sure to give them, the full model number found on the tag inside the cooking cavity.

What can cause a microwave to come on when the door is opened, never seen this before and is very dangerous. it happens with or without time set.


The most likely problem is a faulty door switch, you can buy new switches, but you'd have to follow the diagram here to identify which of the 2 switches you need to replace: See Part # 26

That's either a shorted high voltage diode or a failed magnetron.

How to replace the bulb in our GE Microwave Oven,


the outter cover wrapes around unit remove screws, be careful high voltage is present even with power off just replace bulb reassemble

GE JE1640GA does not heat, the control is working but when you put the time and start its not working.


The latch on the door of my microwave did not make a connection with the sensor inside.  The GE mechanic fixed this problem by slightly pushing the door upwards (with simple manual force).  That's it. It works fine now.
