Toshiba MK1234GAX 120GB hard disk creating problems

I converted my Toshiba MK1234GAX 120GB hard disk into a Portable Hard Disk. I am getting problems in attaching it to my computer. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate, when i connect my device first windows gives a pop-up as "Device not recognized". When i open the properties of the unknown device it says "Windows stopped this device because it has created problems". I was getting another problem, I cannot transfer my data from the disk drive successfully. Every time I transfer a big file the transfer pauses in b/w and explorer shuts down. Please help me!! :(

Thank You

Hello, verified if your hard disk is properly installed in the closure, don't forget to format your hard drive in NTFS. if your problem persist maybe need to check your USB connections in device manager.

Try turning off SMART in MotherBoard Settings (BIOS Settings) and if it won't work, Call a Computer Professional. If Warranty is alive, Call Authorized Service Center.

My portable toshiba 500GB HD drive cant be detected by the computer. You hear the click sound my times like its trying to access it but nothing shows. Also the light is blinking.

That's the click of death - the actual hard disk inside the drive is damaged. The disk is dead, unfixable. Either just buy a complete new unit or dismantle it and replace the actual hard disk with a new one.

click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you should see a yellow question mark?
right click to reinstall drivers
make sure the lead/s that attach to this drive have a secure seating and are not bad/faulty the light on only tells that its getting power it might not be getting enough power you might test the lead/s or
just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again, sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
hope this helps
