My Inspiron 600 says that there is no hard drive when I try to turn it on. This also happened a couple weeks ago, and eventually did turn on after a day of leaving it alone. This time, however, it has been 3 days and it still says no hard drive. Is there anything I can do, or anyway to get my information off the computer?

Re: wont turn on
Your hard drive might still be accessible using external case that you can ourchase from any PC store. Try it first, if you can still access your files, back it up and try to reformat and reinstall your OS.

when you say screen will not turn on it means we do not have display right? now, try this. turn off laptop, press and hold D key then press power button, check if the LCD will display colors if yes then it might be your video card causes the problem which needs motherboard replacement. if no colors appear then LCD needs replacement.
Turn off your laptop, take the dvd-rw drive out of the laptop and then reseat it back into the slot so it snaps into place. Turn the laptop back on and make sure its recognized in My computer.
If it is reocognized then try to burn again and see what happens. If it still gives you the same message, see if your drive will read regular dvd movies. If it doesn't then that means the laser is going bad and the drive will need to be replaced.
The motherboard is bad. This model had a fault where after a while the North Bidge heatsink would break off and short the motherboard distroying it. This problem is something to not fix, it is not worth it, cost more than it is worth.
