HP ZD 7000 wont power up. Will plug in, power light on, press the power button, light goes out computer doesnt turn on

I had a similar though somewhat different problem. My zd7000 was plugged in but it was oscillating between charging the battery and running from the battery. In the past I'd adjust the jack position and life was good - this time nothing mattered. I turned the laptop off and noticed that the charge light came on and stayed on - I guessed something was freaky with the battery so I switched to my spare - the charger light came on, I turned on the power I had a brief power on followed by zzzzttt then everything died. I could smell the stench of electrical burning. I disassemble the whole laptop and removed the motherboard - the back of the power jack is burned. A new jack is $10.

If I had to guess, I"d guess you have a bad jack. I've seen offers to repair this on the net for $100. If the offer is legit, I'd rather pay the bucks - theres only 5 billion screws in the laptop - plus the risk of static discharge damaging to boards or the pain of getting the processor heat sink out without damaging the processor and then getting heat conducting "grease" between the processor and the heat sink when you put it all back together again. I figured my unit was dead anyway, might as well see if I could find the issue. Now I need to get a new jack - and see if I can get it all back together again...

How do i get my hp pavilion zv5000 to run on ac power only. it will only run on the battery.

Zv5000 Laptops are plagued with problems related to the jack on the back of the computer. After prolonged use the jack tends to make the solder joint loose. Jacks can also go bad. The solution would be to check if the power comes on momentarily when wiggling the plug in the jack, if the power comes on intermittently then chances are you have a loose solder joint and may need repaired by a qualified tech. Fortunately, for the technically savvy this may be done carefully provided the proper static sensitive precautions are taken, due to the fact the computer must be totally dismantled to get to the jack and properly inspect the solder connections and repair or replace the jack. Silver heat sink compound must also replace the silicone on the processor ( one dab and compress, do not spread compound!) The jack need should it be replaced can be found on Ebay

Hello I have a dell Latitude D610 laptop, The system works great running off the batter. The dc jack was broken, so I de-soldered the broken jack, and noticied a a couple of scratches on the board by the...

Yes, you should be concerned.

First of all ... the etched electrical traces on motherboards, or any other electronic circuit board for that matter, are very thin.

You need to make sure you are using a soldering iron which allows you to regulate the temperature of the tip of the soldering iron.

If your iron is too hot, the pads will definitely be lifted from the board.
Secondly, the scratch you can visibly see with your naked eye could "potemtially" be deep enough to cut entirely through the trace on the board.

I'm not implying this is the case in your scenario, however, you need to consider the possibility.

When it comes to repairs of this nature, "skilled" techs have gone thorough a "micro minature" repair couse in which the individual learns the proper processes and procedures necessary to make the types of repairs you are describing.

During these classes, the use of a microscope coupled with a steady hand, is absolutely necessary.

In your particular case, I would attempt to resolder the connection and hope for the best, especially if you don't have the proper equipment to effect the repair.

If you attempt the repair only to find out you still have the same problem, all is not lost. You may find that you do in fact have a broken trace.

You can circumvent this problem by utilizing a wire soldered between points A and B.

In summary.... try to resolder the jack first. With luck... you will be done at this point.

If not..... you will definitely need to examine the board to find out if any of the traces have been severed.

If you need any other assistance..... don't hesitate to ask.

Good Luck!!

My hp zd7000 mobo has a short circuit, and won't power up,can you tell me which electronic parts to chech for to solve my problem

If the computer won't start--that is, if you push the on/off switch and nothing happens, then you should replace your power supply.
I doubt very seriously there is a short circuit.

Is HP Pavilion zd7000 screen compatible with HP Pavilion dv8000

Probably, but it would likely require hard wiring the two together. Unless you're a seasoned electronics tech or laptop repair tech, you should probably not bother.

You either have a bad adapter or a broken power jack in the laptop. To check the adapter use a multimeter set to voltage and connect one lead to the center in and the other to the outside metal contact. You should get a reading from 18 to about 26 volts. If you get no reading then the adapter needs to be replaced. If you get the correct reading then the power jack in the laptop will need to be replaced. If yo are ok with electronics repair you can get the jacks from if not your local computer repair shop should be able to do it for you.

I hope this helps, If so please rate my solution,
