Salt water corrosion will not be the problem. Salt water will cause short circuit in the components. Highly unlikely you can fix this player even if you clean it up.

Mp3 was dropped in water and doesn't work anymore

Well the only real thing you can do is to dry it out until no water is left in it and it might work..Usually when these things see water and there on it fries them..but sometimes when they are exposed to water and they are turned of and wait for water to dry they will work again,,Thats not a good sign when you said you heard it sizzle..Thats it shorting out the main board..You might be replacing if when the water dries it doesnt come on thats what happen.Sorry Have A Great Day

Ipod nano went thru washer, now won't work

I did the exact same thing to my iPod nano 3rd gen. I discovered it by the noise it made in the dryer when it fell out of the pocket. Clack! Clack! It seemed dead, but it made a full recovery. What I did was put it on the dashboard of my car for a couple of sunny days to dry out, recharged it, and it was fine. If you have particularly hard water, maybe you'd want to try dipping it in some distilled water just to get rid of any mineral residue before drying it out. I'm impressed with how tough these dudes are. Good luck.

Washing machine safe

Good job - you were lucky. The casing on this one is water-resistant. If water had touched to electronics - bye-bye!

Not with water damage. It should be taken apart asap and get the moisture out of it.

They do make waterproof containers for IPods. Most are reasonably priced.

Wash and dry ipod 3rd gen

Other people have dried out their mp3 players and got it to work sporadically, but the water damage is irreversible. Call Apple and tell them that it just won't work - don't give them the details of how it got there.

My Sony MP3 player went for a swim

Hi musolfmj,

Sorry to hear about your MP3 player. Water is the bane of electronics for a variety of reasons:

First, it conducts electricity, so if the MP3 player was turned on or even if it was turned off and had charged batteries installed when the unit was submersed, it is likely that one or more electronic components within the unit will have shorted out

Secondly water can get absorbed into some of the components of the unit, ruining them. Many electronic components, such as capacitors, are made of carbon and can absorb liquid. Even if these components didn't short out, if they came into contact with liquid they are likely ruined.

Lastly, water carries a lot of dirt and contaminants. Even after the water dries, this grime is left behind on the delicate components within the MP3 player and can likewise cause failures.

Now that said, it is possible that the unit *might* still be repairable, depending on how long it was in the water, whether you immediately removed the batteries to prevent shorting after retrieving it, and how thoroughly the unit was dried out before you attempted to power it back on.

My guess, however, is that even if the unit is repairable, the amount of work required to get it working again will probably make such a repair uneconomical. Sony or your local consumer electronics store (such as Best Buy™) can provide you with an estimate on repairs if you wish to go that route. In my opinion, you are probably going to be better off replacing the item, though.

Best regards,
Ken

Mp3 player went through washing machine

My daughter's Zune went through the washing machine and dryer in May 2008. I checked the internet & it looked pretty bleak. I couId see water inside the screen area & it would not turn on at all. I decided to just leave it sitting on the counter for awhile instead of just throwing it away. Three weeks later I tried to turn it on & got a low battery display. We plugged it in, charged it and it has been working ever since (it is now August 2008).
