Linksys Router Model 546 Ver 2.0 S/N CDF50D9E2533 MAC 0012171D2E2A Recently my wireless router quits operating between the hours of 10 am and 1 pm. I am fairly sure that it is because of outside sources using the same or some harmonic of the freaquency my system. Any suggestions? On some wireless routers the frequency can be reset. Can the frequency be reset on my router? If so how do I do it? This type of problem has happened on a number of garage door openers in the area. I have been able to solve it for my friends by changing the operating frequency of their remote sending unit and the receiver on the garage door opener.

Sorry, your router doesn't support another frequency channel except 2.4ghz. Yes, you are right when you say, some wireless routers have the feature to change the frequency, but most of them also support only two channels; 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz.

As per your assumption, it's also possible, but I don't believe that there's other frequency which will interfere with router's frequency since it/they has/have it's/their own frequency assigned for them. They are not ordinary machines, but are registered machine so the frequency range does.

Your problem could also be firmware problem, this is very common with wireless routers and they unexpectedly lose connection at the particular intervals. But in most cases, this problem is fixed after resettings the router and the firmware is updated.

You also need to check the security settings, if possible change the wpa key. As you said, your problem occurs at a specific time, so security measure is also important. (hackers could also involve with your router at the specific hours of time, this may not be but, you need to take precautionary measure, to find out the root of your problem).

You can reset the router by pressing the "reset" button (hold down for 10 seconds) but after you reset it, you'll need to reconfigure all the settings including the ip address, security, wpa key etc..

I wish you Good Luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Dear Assistants I have a router linksys compact wirless - g broadband router. model number WRT 54GC ver. 2 and i have a problem with it I cant find anywhere the WAN MAC Adress of the Linksys What to do???...

The Linksys has a device MAC address and the router issues IP addresses to the computers that are connected to it.
There is no WAN MAC address. Your ISP issues to your cable or DSL modem an unique IP address and you connect this modem into the WAN port on the Linksys router.
You enter the routers configuration address -
http://192.168.1.1
and login and configure the router.

To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router’s wireless settings configured and also needs the wireless cards in all the laptops and or computers to be configured with the router’s wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.
To access the Internet you need to connect the DSL or cable modem to the WAN (Internet) port on the wireless router.

The 2 different operating systems can run off the same router. Also check to see which type of security you are using I would suggest WPA2 if you do not see that listed you will need a firmware update.
