Question about Dometic RM2652 Refrigerator

1 Answer

Have a dometic refrigerator( I think RM2652 or RM 2852) in our fifth wheel. I checked the fuses ,the batteries are brand new and checked them. but still no power to the refrigerator. Everything else works in the trailer. Not sure what is the problem.I had the recall done on it a few years back. Seems to be no power to it.

Thank you for your help! We have scheduled the trailer to be taken in to camping world to be fixed. I am hoping that we dont need a new refrigerator. they are expensive. I hope they find a simple reason that the power is not to the frig, maybe a relay switch or something we dont know about. Anyhow thanks for your help.

Just to update you on our refrigerator issue. We talked to Dometic corp. and they said that they gave us our recall fix and that they are not going to do anymore so we have to buy a new unit. Thank you for your help.

The recall was about the LPG burner, not related to this problem since you are running it electric. The  electrical system is very simple on these refrigerators - just some wires, a thermostat and a heating resistance, no moving parts. So if the power doesn't comes to the fridge it can be only a break in the power cord  - check that the power reaches the thermostat. If it doesn't then it's in the power cord or the wiring of your RV  . If it does reaches the thermostat but not the resistance (whatever the position ) then it's busted and must be replaced - beware, replacing it will be a pain, access for the tube is very limited.

thank you for the information, I have another question? I pulled off a metal panel that shields the tube at the back of the refrigerator. There I found yellow gunk along the bottom and white corosion, something like what you would see on a battery, around certain areas of the tube. I believe the tube is the condensor? It looks like at one time something had leaked but dried up also. Last year our trailer had a very bad rotten egg smell. We couldnt get the refrigerator on last year also. but the book said check the batterys. we did and they were bad so we bought new batteries. This year there is no odor and the batteries are brand new. We never pulled that panel off last year so I dont know how long that gunk was there.

That's a totally different problem. Your refrigerator is a condenser type (not a compressor one) and as such it uses ammonia , not freon. Ammonia smells like rotten eggs, if you smelled it it's because you had a leak and that gas in the sealed system slowly leaks out over time; when you looked in the rear of your refrigerator gas assembly and saw a yellow dust, this was the result of the leak. You no longer smell anything now because the gas is long gone.

The fridge must be taken to a repairman to have the leak fixed and the circuit filled with ammonia.

Dometic 2852 freezer gets cold but refridge does not

If your freezer is getting down close to zero degrees (F) then I doubt that your refrigerant is low. The most common cause of the refrigerator section not getting cool (approximately 40 degrees (f)) is a fan that pulls the coils in the freezer into the refrigerator has failed. A very common failure of a cheep little fan motor. Normally that fan is behind a panel in the freezer section at the bottom. Determine where the cold air in the refrigerator section normally enters and the fan will be above there.
