Have your antenna checked at a place that knows what they're doing. If your antenna system is bad, ground problem, coax bad mount or maybe just a wrong or bad antenna. Then the sounds not getting out the antenna and its feeding back thur the radio. If your echo board was bad then your radio wouldn't transmitt at all.
If you unplug your external speaker will it squeal? If not do the antenna and if that reads fine just try a better speaker like a uniden 20watt speaker.I own a CB shop and this is easy to fix.

Go to the engine fuse module and check 20A fuse 5 which feeds power to the separate amplifier and subwoofer amplifier. Also check 10A fuse 3 which feeds power to the radio, the CD changer, and the rear integrated control panel.

I have a PC 78XL CB radio and it is on but cant hear nothing ,volume is turn up

Make sure squelch is turned down enough---if meter shows signal and no audio the internal speaker may be bad (plug one into external jack on rear of the radio).

If the radio transmits and shows it (or someone can hear when you xmit) the problem is in the audio circuit of the radio.

Check internal/external speaker AND SWAP THE MIC as a mic with a broken wire inside or open element as well can cause this.

I have a TRC 502A CB radio that hasn't been used in about 5 yrs. I recently tried to use it and when I transmitted, the audio came thru the speaker. Any idea what's wrong?

it could be grounded inside...Somebody may had it set for Talkback features.. Take it apart look for speaker wires (see if soldered to resistors) if its shorted seperate wires ..just have speakers wires attached. Try external SPKR. Try different mics or radio may have gone bad completely.

You're most likely getting lots of RF feedback from the metal cab of your truck, combined with the real sensitive nature of the amplified Turner mike.I would put an old original Cobra (coffin mike) handheld mike or a Astatic Roadking 56 (RK56) on it.They are really hard to beat, especially when you have lots of feedback & squealing. I also have a 148GTL (malaysia made) that has a Turner +3 deskmike & it squeals in my truck but not in the house. The 148GTL has given me better service than ANY other radio I've owned. It has 120 channels (freeband) & upper & lower sideband. I think mine is a 5pin Cobra-type plug-in. Try a simpler mike & good luck. Squirrly

MIc. feed back

When ever an Export radio is modified and tuned especially the talk back it will feed back bad!! When you have this tune done to the radio the stock microphone is no longer any good to use and no longer an option!! The radio tech. should have explained this to you!! You will now have to use a very good quality Noise cancelling Microphone for the Connex it is recommended to use an Astatic 636L Microphone. They work real well with the Export radios or if you prefer you can get an Turner RK-56 Microphone but they are alot more expensive and my opinion is the the RK-56 is over rated and they do rob your radio of some audio!! The Astatic 636L gets rid of most feedback problem and make your voice soumd crisp and claer!! If that dont do the trick than you have to take the radio back to the tech that did the work and tell them to install a larger resistance on the talback modification they did!! No sound coming back

Is the radio set up correctly? Is the volume turned up / squelch turned down?

If they can hear you but tou cant hear them, try opening the radio up and checking the speaker connections.

Ill need to know the result of those questions and tests before i can help further...

Power problem?

???

1. Is the head unit powering the speakers directly or through an amp?
2. What ohm load (4,8,) per channel and how many speakers?
3. Does it do it with the bass set all the way down?

If you have access to a voltmeter see what the voltage is on the yellow and black wires when it is diming. It should be stable ~ 13.5v with car on. if its < 10v when dimming either there is:

1. Shorted speaker lead.
2. Bad ground to radio.
3. loose power feed to radio.
4. Ohm load below 4 ohms, causing the eccess current draw.
